On August 6th, 2024,
dragoneer died of lung problems at 44. He is missed and will continue to be missed.
I never knew or interacted much with him, but from what I’ve seen from others, he was an ultimately good man. He had his flaws and bad takes, but he knew to put FurAffinity and users ahead.
I’m taking it pretty hard myself, to be honest. I joined FA in February 2010 while being bullied at school, and DeviantArt (which I joined in April 2009) and FA were my creative outlets. FA was what let to a lot of self-discovery and gave so much room to grow and deal with the bullying. I honestly would not be around right now if it wasn’t for FA, and I thank Dragoneer for having FurAffinity around.
Right now I just have the sadness and anger that comes with it all. Sadness at this loss and how big it is, sadness for his family and friends, anger at the US healthcare system (and that will come out with a future rant post), and fear for the sites future. We don’t know the finances for now, the care “provider” is notorious for medieval methods of getting money out of patients, and the site is directly owned by and LLC and so can be liquidated alongside its assets like FA to pay them off. For now I can only give the call to action to donate and subscribe to FurAffinty and to donate to any charities set up for Dragoneer, all if you can. Do what we can to keep FurAffinity and Dragoneer’s memory alive.

We miss you, Dragoneer; rest well.
