Nugget really does love his model train set, just watching it go round and round and roooound, never ending fun! Can you work out which train and livery he loves the most?
Amazing work by Story, truly capturing something I am very much fond of, even to this day! Theres just something about a little model train, zipping around the track and whooshing by as it narrowly misses derailment around every corner. Nugg has got to be in the center of the track, making sure everything is running smoothly and on time, which, in typical British railways fashion, is barely ever! So much fiddling about and constant tweaking having to be done to keep his model trains working, all part of the charm really.

Oh! a fellow appreciator of model trains~ And yup! I absolutely love the hst in the first livery, having grown up around the time of their prominence. I... I have yet to purchase a model of such in the first livery with how pricey they are, defo need one though with all 8 carriages, including the buffet carriage of course.
Hah I’m an Aussie modeller but I’ve quite the growing collection of UK models too as I’ve always admired the trains there. In my case the FGW livery I know most from having driven the HSTs in the old train simulator wearing it hah.
I guess the Gwr castle set with the 4 coaches and the two power cars wasn’t too pricey (but certainly not cheap!) but I love running it. The only full-size UK train I have is a full GNER Intercity 225 set with the 91, 9 coaches and the DVT. That thing barely fits on my layout but it’s so pretty I just had to have it!

I still have yet to give train driving simulators a chance, I should really do soooo. Gwr castle sets are preeetty, shame that I didnt get to see em all that much before they got retired. Thats soooo cool! I do see intercity 225 sets running on our rails from time to time, just backup rolling stock with hollowed out engines being shunted from the back, still neat to see em.
I have quite a few of the different simulators. Some are better than others but I enjoy them all really. Mostly drive the UK stuff in them as British rail practice is very similar to Australian so easier for me to learn. Also lots of interesting stock and routes available.
I’d been wanting to get a ride on a HST but just not been able to get a trip to the UK. Guess I’ve missed my chance now given they all seem to be gone or on the way out. Those castle sets a friend of mine used to catch and yeah, I fell in love with that glossy dark green paint finish. So damn smart! Plus at four coaches and the power cars, it was the perfect size to fit on my layout and not block the points in the loops haha.
The 225s are really cool too. Those 91s in particular I’ve always loved the “designed with a ruler” angular shape to them. Still looks pretty futuristic if you ask me.

It's quite the expensive hobby to get into and you do need the space for it. I'm not entirely sure why I love trains so much, they aren't so different to cars and other forms of transport. Must be something to do with my childhood, the reliance upon them as a mode of transport, a gateway to happy memories spent with family, even if that meant rushing for a train on the cusp of departure.
Story never fails to capture artwork that is just so amazingly whimsical and fun! It's an inviting style and it really plays its part here, because I'm getting the full force of a lovable, adorable dragon who is having a blast with a model train! It's so freaking adorable, so much to the point where just looking at this would brighten ANYONES day!
