A bit of backstory: Rook is a wolf from the Gaison family, a bloodline from Lumia. His bloodline can absorb and gain powers from others via their blood magic. This gives them the power to gain other powers with just a little blood, making their ability quite strong when they fight someone. Outside of magic, they are known for their quick reactions and senses, making them a strong challenge in a fight. The bloodline keeps their unique ability hidden from the general public and only discloses it to those they trust. This is to keep their family safe from anyone looking to obtain their power or hunt them. The result of this keeps their family from being well known, but some people know of their bloodline and power. The Gaison family has a unique marking normally on their left arm, it's a red marking that has been in the family for generations. The marking glows when they use their blood magic, normally being an easier way to tell who is part of their bloodline. Some of the Gaison ancestors left Lumia during the time some of the Hunter ancestors left, in doing so they started to live among the people of Earth. They went to Earth to discover a new world and grow, to branch out.
By the time Rook is born, the bloodline has spread to different parts of the world. He is born with the Gaison marking along his right arm, forehead, and tail. People without knowledge of their bloodline would think these are just tattoos of some sort. Rook is given plenty of time and training from his parents, teaching him the ropes of his gift and showing him how to properly use it. Not only for gaining new powers but how to use his original power in both defense and offense capabilities. They wanted to start him early on knowing his power so he doesn't expose them by accident. However this doesn't quite stop him from exposing his powers on purpose to show off to another magic user.
This leads to Rook meeting another magic user who would become his closest friend. He meets Kenshiro, a red dragon who he becomes friends with in middle school. The two discover the other by accident, Kenshiro was practicing his fire magic at an old mining site that was no longer in use. Rook was looking for him because Kenshiro left his notebook behind for their class, so he was able to find him and see Kenshiro using his fire magic. This encounter leads Rook to interact with Kenshiro and show him his own magic and explain it to him. Both are impressed with the other's magic and it sparks a friendship between them as they find someone who shares a passion for magic and adventure as the other does. This later leads to them hanging out all the time, both of their parents getting along with the other's family and hanging out together. Kenshiro and Rook challenge each other to get stronger and find ways to outdo the other with their own abilities.
Through high school and into college, both Rook and Kenshiro have been practicing with others on using magic and understanding the ways magic works. Rook takes a special interest in learning how magic interacts with other kind of magic and how infusing magic to items work. He studies various books from his family's library on magic as well as studying magic from other people he meets. He manages to meet Karim, a wolf with vast knowledge of magic. He learns of different kinds of magic and how to read magic on various objects. Thanks to this, Rook can tell and decipher magic on objects and how to properly use said items. Meanwhile, Rook takes time to study business for college and understand the process of how to run one. His friend Kenshiro aims to be a trainer and teach martial arts to people with magic and non-magic alike if he can find a way to do it safely. After finishing college and getting into their lives, they find out about magic being revealed to the general public. This allows Kenshiro to start working towards his dream while Rook decides he can assist.
It's not long before Rook and Kenshiro come to visit an antique shop that is looking to hire people for the shop and adventurers. Inside they meet Clive, the owner who offers various antiques, relics, and magical items. This interests Rook a great deal given his interest in magical items they currently have and identifies each kind of magic on them. Clive and Rook start talking about what the shop does and the adventures that Clive and Bruce get into. It makes Rook very interested in being part of it and he talks Kenshiro into it as well, a way for them both to see new things and ways for them to learn more magic. On top of that, it allows Kenshiro to start building up money to his goal of making his own fighting dojo of magic and non-magic. Together the two decide to work with Clive and Bruce. They are quickly introduced to Charan, Liam, Cid, and a few others. As they embark on adventuring and running the shop together. For Rook's part, he handles identifying magical items and the values of the magic along with figuring out where the magic is from.
