MBTA Bus Driver Rebecca (Emergency Sign Demo)
In this pic, Rebecca demonstrates that in the event of an emergency on board the bus, the green lights on the top and backside of the bus will flash and the destination display will display "EMERGENCY" and "CALL MBTA POLICE". It's important that us MBTA passengers report these to our local MBTA Transit Police when we see it. Bus-related emergencies come without warning. So please be prepared. I know i'm always prepared to report if I see things like this when I come to Boston. Click download to access the animation. The reason I did this one is 'cause FA user lunden asked me what those green lights on the top of the bus are for, so I eventually decided to do this pic, demonstrating those green emergency lights.

they can be green lights , green strobes on the roof like BAT or even a standard strobe with no specific color. they are called "Vandal" lights or "telltale" lights and they are used to tell the public that there is something wrong on the bus or if the bus is being hijacked. the driver lifts the red cover and pulls the switch up, the interior destination sign control will not show anything and only the outside signs will display "EMERGENCY" "CALL POLICE", then to disengage, they just push the red switch cover down and then the driver should reset the destination sign. these switches and lights are checked during every pretrip inspection and is used on the DPU test in massachusetts (bus license test).

You're welcome. I'm glad I could make a pic explaining the green lights on the MBTA buses.
I did one for the Starfox Transit Buses as well:
