Comic: Scarlet Heart (Page 2)
The next night, Roseland caught an Outrider ship, ready to set sail across the sea to her desired region. The journey would likely take a day or so by boat, should everything go to plan. The weather is calm, the waters are relaxed and gentle, and the atmosphere aboard the ship is lively as ever. The many sailors, travelers, and adventurers get together to celebrate their time at sea together, with drinks, songs, and dances. Though, Roseland opts to remain by herself, resting in the ship’s tavern once the excitement settles down. While sailing at sea, she begins to sail through her own thoughts, thinking to herself about the situation she chose to take part in, “A Hero, hmm? And one with a bounty over their head, no less?” The conditions do certainly seem strange upon first glance. Why would this “Hero” be wanted dead or alive? The Naga didn’t explain much further to Roseland about why he wanted the culprit taken in, but it mattered not to her. Instead, they would be another sizeable bonus for her pockets. She did not think much more of it, preferring to leave morality out of the equation. While lost in thought, the bartender noticed her by her lonesome, and offered her a kindness, “Oi, pretty lady, you've been quiet this whole trip, want a drink? It's on me.” While she did stand out compared to the rest of the passengers, he had no ill thoughts about her and wanted to treat her with the same kindness he would treat any other visitor. She simply lifted a hand, ensuring that she would be fine, and thanked him for his generosity, “No, but I appreciate it.” The aged bull, unbothered by her desire to stay alone, continued to drink while organizing the ship’s drinking supplies, “Ah well, suit yourself.”
Later that night, Roseland stood out on the deck of the ship, overlooking the beautiful ocean and its sparkly waters. The stars littered the sky and the blessed moon helped usher in a peaceful, calming atmosphere. Most others had gone to get some rest, meanwhile Roseland chose to get some fresh air and continue to gather her thoughts. It’s unlikely that she will have any downtime once she reaches her destination and starts her investigation, so she would do best to make the most of it now. She leans against the fencing and ponders to herself, “That fake sense of what's right and wrong is what holds furkind down. Traitors, backstabbers, they're a plague.” She has been no stranger to double-crossers during her time as a bounty hunter, and oftentimes she can get a decent read on whether someone is trustworthy or not. She believes that people should become more individualistic rather than trying to appease to some kind of higher morality or ethical to-do list. Her train of thought is interrupted by the ship’s captain, blurting out an announcement to any still meandering on the deck, “Oi, all ye misfits! I reckon we'll be makin' landfall by the morn. I suggest ye get some rest.” Roseland mumbles to herself, “Mmm...” Perhaps it would be best for her to turn in for the night. Tomorrow, her mission begins anew.
