Just learned something while camping. Fireflies are bioluminescent due to the organic compound luciferin. Apparently their eggs and larva also have this compound but only the adults can control the light output. The eggs and larva just glow. This is a larva curled defensively like a millipede. Bright enough to see at ten paces. Crazy.
