Defiled Tomb - unfinished Dwarf Fortress sketch
Hi.
Because of my lack of proper updates, I wanted to share some older art that I have in order to make myself feel better by posting.
If you know Dwarf Fortress, then congratulations! You are probably *not* going to read this like I am speaking moonspeak. :)
If you do not know Dwarf Fortress (or even what I am talking about), then congratulations as well! You get to dive into a very complex game! :)
In Dwarf Fortress. you get to construct and oversee an outpost for a dwarven civilization. The scale is a bit closer than SimCity but a bit farther than The Sims. You can build complex sewer systems, make grand mushroom farms, host places of worship and drink, and then zoom in to an individual (from a dog that you brought to the new settlement all the way to the D R A G O N that is now melting your doors...!).
To make a (very) long explanation short, sentient beings that perish in your world come back as a ghost if they are not properly respected.
If a being such as a dwarf, elf, human, or animal person dies, then their corpse stays in the world. Their soul, however, may haunt the material plane as a ghost! If a sentient being's corpse is either not buried or memorialized, then their soul becomes restless and roams the lands as a ghost.
Anyway, ghosts' disposition depends on their personality and/or specific criteria before their awakening. For example, a dwarf that died due to melancholy (i.e. "insanity and eventual death due to depression") or had a high propensity to becoming depressed would become a "moaning spirit," who would disturb others.
Now that you understand that, this sketch was to be a drawing of a dwarf ghost battering and haunting another dwarf.
In the game, the removal/destruction of a grave or a slab causes the eventual spirit to become murderous.
I am assuming that this is a restless spirit beating the absolute daylights out of some unfortunate miner or passerby.
I am very happy with the lines here. I like the ghost dwarf's hands and wrist. I find her expression intense and empathetically angry. I like how her hair and jewelry sway in the otherworldly energy.
The poor guy's injuries are sad and painful.
