Long been used as a transport, the hyogan are an semi-aquatic amphibian. Although superceeded by motorised vehicles in the modern world, Hyogan are still the norm for less develpoed areas, as well as watery areas because of there inherit adaptability.
They are smaller than a horse, though not by much. They can run for hours without tiring, and can easily pull heavy loads. They tend to be used on ground unsuitable for other beings, such as marshy areas, or while having to pull a wagon or the like. However, in some areas, horses who have made a living out of this are still more popular.
They are extreamly adaptable, having dispersed thoughout the globe. Depending on area, they are slightly differing. In certain places, they have even adapted the ability to run across water for short distances.
Intullectually, they aren't sentient, but some have debated weather this is the fault of vocal chords or actual intellect. They are, however, undebatably smart.
They can subsist comfortably in both land and water, possesing nostrils and gills. They are carniverous, feeding mainly on small fish. Hyogan are hermaphodetic, and reproduce by laying eggs. Although they can copulate with themselves, they do it only if they cannot find a mate, as a last resort.
They hunt by waiting by a pool of water until a fish swims by. As it arives, the hyoga dives in, usually having to give chase. In the case of land-dweeling creatures, they will attempt to sneak as close as possible, then give chace. Hyogan eat about five small fish a week. They travel in small groups at the most.
