UPDATE!

After all the crazy stuff at the San Jose Pokemon VGC regionals, My Bouffalant was a near constant pick in each of my matches till I lost in the top 32.

She's earned that Nickname.

I have a loose hypothesis that some elements were cut from "Over a barrel" for time or content reasons. Like Dash's concussion which also could have inspired a "vision quest" scene. And, of course, a "Dances with wolves" thing with Braeburn and Little Strongheart.
