Been on a weird tangent of redesigning some characters from the Colmaton group, a community collection/setting of superhero anthros. Many of them had designs that were really similar to established superheroes. I have drawn Lady Liberty a BUNCH of times as have many other artists. I remember she had a lot of powers and a lot of very specialized/magic gear. She was also a hybrid of horse and tiger which resulted in a horse with tiger stripes. I wanted to try a redesign and I'm pretty happy with it.
First, all the powers come from enchanted items that have different effects, she has no powers without them. She used to wear boots and gloves but wielded a sword and shield so I thought gauntlets and greaves might be better. Got rid of the utility belt as it does not seem to really fit with her theme and I wanted to simplify things. I made her garment green just because I thought of the statue of liberty connected to her name and decided that it would be original and different. She had kind of a greek amazon look before and now she does a little more so but more cohesive I think.
Next, I drew her as a horse instead of a hybrid and drew her with digitigrade legs. Why? Because I like anthro horses to have them. I also thought she could be distinct without being a hybrid. All the other choices I came up with make her a warrior of peace, a hero and someone that was meant to protect people and bring them relief from pain and tyranny. She also came out looking pretty cute so I liked that.
What about the hood? I like hood. It rains sometimes, y'know? That's a pain when you fly around or hop from rooftop to rooftop. Cheers!
