The day arrives as the couple walk up to the orphanage building in the middle of the day, "Ready Fang?" Blade asked, feeling her grip on his hand tighten.
"Just a second!" Fang called before she took a few deep breaths.
She pats her cheeks a tad letting out a few sparks, "Alright....whew, just gotta get those nerves out y'know?"
"Yeah...me too" His heart pumps as they walk up to the door.
"C'mon, Lolly, girl!" Fang called, and the Furfrou soon jumped from the backseat of the car, barking happily.
The couple took one last deep breath and opened the door to the orphanage. "Hello?" Blade called out, "Ms. Marian? It's Blade, we're here for a visit?" they step into the hallway, it looks like something out of a school as an elder looking lapras, at least in her early 50s came in.
"Ah Mr. and Mrs. Hekili del Rosario!" She happily clapped her hands, "So nice to meet you both!" she came up and shook both of their hands. "The kids love your stories ma'am~"
"Thank you!" said Fang. "I'm glad to hear that!"
"Arf arf!" Lolly happily barked, panting while wagging her tail.
"I hope we can find someone who we'll provide the right home for ma'am," Blade smiled.
"We have quite a few kids around here, some I've personally raised since they were babies" Marian said as she led the couple to the backyard, "It's currently playtime for everyone so they should be all outside"
"We'd love to see them," said Fang.
"Right this way" the elderly lapras led the way towards the back, passing by the many rooms that housed the kids. Eventually they've reached the playground, many kids ranging from as young as 5 to as old as 13 running around. From playing in the sand box to even playing card games at the lunch tables.
"Wow look at 'em all" Blade said.
"Arf arf!" Lolly barked immediately, attracting the attention of some of the kids.
"Doggy!!" Some of the younger ones shouted immediately running over to the Furfrou.
Lolly wagged her tail as they all pet her.
"She's so pretty!" said a little Buneary.
"Do you ever shave her fur?" asked a young Sobble.
"Only during the summer when it gets too hot for her," Fang replied. "When I do, I always go for the La Reine Trim. Otherwise, I just give her fur a brush and short trip to keep it from growing out too long."
Lolly puts on quite a smug face, really adoring all the attention.
"Goodness there's so many..." Blade quietly.
"Many were left behind as babies, some were living off the streets and others were sadly given up by those who aren't fit for parenthood." Marian said.
"If we could adopt them all we would but...for now we're settling for one" Fang said smiling at the sight of all the kids, "But where to star-" She then sees a hint of blue in the back bushes. She then sees him, a small shiny rockruff child by his lonesome playing around with some rocks. Wearing overalls with a pikachu undershirt, the little boy shyly waves at Fang.
"Honey? Something wrong?" Blade asked.
"Him." Fang pointed at the boy.
"That Rockruff over there?" asked Blade.
"Ah that's Spinel, he recently turned 5 not too long ago" Marian smiled fixing her glasses a tad while pulling out her little book which has details of all the kids that are under her care. "Such a sweet kid, his favorite foods are meat, rock candy and especially tangerines."
"Does he know any moves?" Blade asked.
"Stealth rock & Rock Slide surprisingly enough" Marian said making his eyes widen.
"Goodness, at such a young age." Blade exclaimed.
"How'd he get here?" asked Fang.
"Someone left him on the steps," Marian replied. "All I found was a note saying to take care of him. You know, you're the first people that ever showed even an interest in him."
"Really?" Fang asked.
"Indeed, for all his life so far he has seen few of his companions getting adopted but never him." Marian said with a hint of pity. "He's a wonderful child, strong yet studious. When you get to know him he's such a curious one too~"
".....Blade, I think he's the one," Fang smiled.
"I think so, too," Blade asked. "Wanna go introduce ourselves?"
"Mhmm, Lolly keep the others busy" Fang said, making the Furfrou nod in response to continue basking in the attention of the kiddies. The couple then approach the little rockruff child.
"Hey there little guy" Blade knelt down to his eye level. "I'm Blade and this is my wife Fang~"
"H-hi" the young rockruff replied shyly, putting his hands behind his back with his tail swaying softly, "I-i'm Spinel"
"How come you're sitting here by yourself?" Fang asked.
"Because no one ever wants to adopt me," replied Spinel, sadly. "So I might as well just sit here alone."
"How come they don't want to adopt you?" Blade asked.
"Cause I'm too different." he sadly said rubbing his blue fur, "No one wants a blue rockruff pup like me"
"Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with that," said Fang. "I like your pretty blue fur."
"Really?" asked Spinel.
"Yeah if anything that makes you all the more special" Blade smiled, "Heck some of the strong fighters at my dojo are shinies like you~"
"You work at a dojo?" Spinel's eyes widened with wonder.
"Yep, one of the best there is~" Blade smiled, he nodded at Fang who grew her own smile. Spinel didn't seem to notice, but his tail was wagging behind him.
Fang gave her husband a reaffirming nod, as she knelt down as well. "Marian told us you're pretty smart too since you're already ready for Kindergarten"
"Uh huh, I know all my abc's and some math" His tail wags even faster, "I even know a couple moves!" He yipped a tad, his heart starting to swell as the pair got up.
"Miss Marian, I think we've made our choice," Blade said.
"You did?" Marian asked.
"You do?" Spinel asked, his heart thumping as the couple faced each other and gave each other one more nod in agreement.
"Spinel, how would you like to come live with us~?" Fang asked, offering her hand to the young Spinel as tears started welling up in his eyes.
"Can I, really?" he asked.
"You're it little champ~" Blade also offered his hand to the young one alongside his wife, Spinel starts crying a little.
"You.....you really mean it?" He said as tears started streaming down his cheeks.
"Miss Marian, we'll start filling out the paperwork, right away!" Fang exclaimed.
"Of course right this way to my office~" Marian smiled, "And Spinel dear, I can finally say to you to go pack up your things~"
"Yes Ms. Marian!!" Spinel yipped excitement as he practically sped away to his room with some of the kids cheering him on.
"Congratulations, Spinel!" exclaimed a young Rattata.
"You're on your way!" added a Lillipup.
"We're going to miss you!" Said a little Ralts girl as Spinel practically raced inside, though suddenly the little ralts gripped her head, reeling from a sharp pain.
"Something wrong Mary?" The rattata asked.
"Ugh....it feels like someone tried to barge in through the door loudly" She rubbed her eyes which momentarily changed color before reverting back to her natural color. She then shivered, "It felt.....really really evil" All the other kids soon grew nervous as they looked at each other.
In the meantime, while Fang and Blade were busy reading through all the paperwork. Marian watched with tearful glee as Spinel was packing as much as he could into his suitcase. Clothes, his favorite toys, to even the very blanket he came in when he was first dropped off at the orphanage.
"Oh I waited just as long as you did for this moment Spinel" The elderly lapras wiped a couple tears off her eyes sniffling.
"Ms. Marian" the little rockruff walked up to her and gave her legs the biggest hug he could muster. "Thank you for taking care of me" his tail wagged happily with tears in his eyes.
"Every day is a new day from now on, Spinel," said Marian. "Enjoy it."
"I pinkie promise" He smiles as Marian leans down crosses her pinkie finger with Spinel's.
"Don't be afraid to visit too~" Marian then gives him one last tearful hug to the young pup as back in the office, Marian's secretary a peppy Miltank gives off the final signatures with Fang practically electric with excitement.
"We're gonna miss Spinel, but we know when he's going to be in good hands~" the miltank smiled, giving the final stamp of approval onto the paperwork.
"We'll be the best parents a kid would ask for~" Blade proclaimed with pride.
"I don't doubt it for a second," said the Miltank.
"We'll be checking in next month to see how he's faring," said Marian. "We hope you'll provide him a good home."
"Of course, we will," Fang replied.
Soon the young pup arrives hauling his luggage to the office, "Ah just in time~!" The Miltank exclaimed, clapping her hands, "Congratulations Spinel, you are now Spinel Hekili Del Rosario~!"
"You ready to go champ~?" Blade asked, happily taking his luggage.
"Uh huh!" the young rockruff takes one last look back at the orphanage before taking Fang's hand. "Can.....can you hold my hand before we go?"
"Of course, I will," Fang said as she gently took his paw in hers.
The newly adopted Spinel walks hand in hand with Fang out of the orphanage, Blade loads up the car with Spinel's luggage with the pup taking one last look at the building.
"Now remember to put on your seatbelt now" Fang smiled as Spinel climbs into the backseat, buckling tight before being joined by Lolly who sits right next to him.
"Now then, time to head to your new home little champ" Blade said as he gets into the driver's seat. Spinel leans out the window waving to the other kids who were peering out their windows from their rooms also waving bye to Spinel cheering for his adoption. Eventually the car pulls away and whisks Spinel away to Fang and Blade's home.
"This is real.....this is really real" Spinel sniffled a tad, his tail wagging with excitement.
"Wait till you see your new room~" Blade smiled.
'He is so PRECIOUS...!!' thought Fang as she looked back at Spinel, who wagged his tail in excitement.
"Arf arf~!" Lolly happily barked at the nuzzling Spinel.
"And I see Lolly already took a liking to you~" Blade smiled.
"She's so soft~!" Spinel exclaimed, giving the furfrou head pets and slowly but surely, the new family arrived back home.
"And here we are~" Blade exclaimed, "Welcome to your new home!"
Spinel gaped in awe as he saw his new house.
"You mean I really get to live here?!" he asked.
"Mhmm~" Fang happily nodded, "Let's get you settled in~" She said as Blade parked the car in the driveway, Spinel practically leapt out of the car in awe at the house. He closes his eyes feeling the soft fresh breeze blow through his fur.
"Yep it's very nice and quiet out here, you might even catch a sight of some wild pokemon out here~" Blade smiled as he hauled the luggage out of the trunk. The family head on in with Lolly happily returning to the couch for some much needed rest.
"Woooow" Spinel is all starry eyed at all the neat stuff in the home. He looks around seeing all the pictures, bouncing on the couch a tad just really excited that he's going to be living here.
"Ready to see your room~?" Fang asked.
"Yeah!!" He exclaimed as Blade leads to his room, Spinel gasps at such a large space he's being given. From a full closet with fresh clothes, a tv, new toys and of course a fully made bed ready to be slept in by the young lad. He starts tearing up again, "All this......is mine?" He looks up to Fang and Blade who eagerly nod, he then lunges forward and wraps their legs in a tight hug shivering as he cries in joy. "T-thank you!"
"Welcome home Spinel~" Fang smiled as she kneels down to return the hug.

At this point in the story, Fang here is sadly barren after a year of trying. However, they soon pick the option to adopt and welcome to their home Spinel. A young shiny rockruff~
