The Ozou (common name: Hollow-Eye) is a species of malevolent fae spirit commonly associated with night terrors and sleep paralysis.
As parasitic spirits, Ozou feed off of magical energy. Specifically, they feed on the energy produced by creatures while they sleep. They often stick to one host for months at a time, only moving on to a new target after they have been sated. Being the host of an Ozou may produce several symptoms, such as fatigue, paranoia, and night terrors.
Rarely, targets may wake up during the feeding process, and find themselves paralyzed by the Ozou's stare. If one finds themselves in such a situation, they mustn't look directly at the Ozou. This may frighten the creature, causing it to maul them. Specifically, an enraged Ozou will target its victim's eyes, gouging them out and digging at the brain behind them.
Skittish in nature, Ozou will often avoid feeding in populated areas, instead opting to feed off of isolated individuals. Sleeping with others is a common tactic to ward off Ozou and other nocturnal spirits, and is the best method to rid oneself of an already attached Ozou.
An Ozou's paralytic stare is powerful, but limited to a single target. Thus, if one is hunting an Ozou, it is recommended that they bring a partner. Ozou are solitary creatures, so one companion is usually enough.
