Then and Now series, Behold the THEN!
An RPG character I played from a game system by White Wolf called Exalted. Dragon blooded were the chosen of the elemental dragons, also called terrestrial exalted. Their power flowed through their bloodlines, which meant unlike the celestial exalted where there were only 300 of each, the dragon blooded could have as many as they had children. Their power was technically the weakest of the exalts, but their numbers made up for it.
V’neef Savo
Dragon blood of legendary breeding. Youngest child of the house’s founder V’neef and grandchild of The Scarlet Empress.
Were they born in a more stable period of time their life might have been more their own, but The Realm is on the verge is civil war, and their life has been dedicated to the survival of their house.
Savo’s gender was never announced when they were born. Savo was simply Savo. With the purity of their blood, they exalted when they were incredibly young and were taught to attune to a specific family manse, and a specific hearthstone that allowed them to shift their gender at will.
From the time they could, they were expected to shift genders every day, and ordered never to reveal what their original gender was in order to broaden the prospects of marriage within the other houses. V’neef being the youngest, smallest, and weakest house meant that if civil war broke out their mother wanted the largest amount of possible marriage options for larger houses regardless of who was available, and the purity the family’s bloodline would mean everyone would be interested.
As was expected of all dragon blooded children, Savo was trained in both war and politics by the family tutors until they came of age to attend military school, and V’neef did not spare the expense of sending Savo to Pasiap’s Stair. While it was known to be a brutal school, the graduates were guaranteed command of at least a scale. A good start to a military career, and chance for V’neef to demonstrate the power of their newest crop. Firedust.
Savo was trained extensively in the use of firedust weaponry, also known as flame projection weapons. With such weapons, even common mortals could strike with the strength of an exalt. When they graduated and were placed in charge of an artillery scale, V’neef paid out of the family coffers to have every member of the unit equipped with flame projection guns and ring bayonets. If anyone thought they were going to break through the lines and attack a weak artillery unit, they were going to be in for quite the surprise.
Savo’s quirk of changing gender every day was surprisingly accepted by their peers at the academy. Every dragon blooded child had to deal with some political machinations by their parents even if Savo’s was extreme. Their first campaign off The Blessed Isle brought them together into a sworn brotherood with Cathak Sapphire and Tepet (contacting player of character to remember their name. The name will be added later.) Their oaths were to not kill each-other if their houses came to battle, but duel and take the loser hostage. Between Savo’s artillery unit, Saphire’s shock troops, and Tepet’s heavy infantry, there seemed nothing that could stand against them.
