Calibur never thought that he'd bump into Yasushi while shopping at the fish market, but in retrospect, he should have seen it coming. They called the old boy "sushi" for a reason. He hadn't seen his fellow Greninja since back in the old days, when he was just the best assassin for the Rindo Clan, rather than the Clan Father that presided over it. Yasushi used to be freelance, but these days things were a little different, and Calibur and Yasushi caught up as his old friend -- now a bartender -- prepared one of his special drinks, one that was not only flavorful, but restorative as well.
Yasushi - "Who would have thought we would meet again like this?" Yasushi said, smiling softly from the other side of his bar.
Calibur - "I could say the same," Calibur said, wiping his nose with his thumb as he adjusted his posture in the stool. "I remember how well built you were. Seems like aging has passed you its invoice, eh?"
Yasushi - "Come now. You know better than anyone that you're only as old as you feel." As Yasushi chuckled, he let a few seeds and leaves fall into a mortar and pestle, then used both hands to grind down the ingredients as he and his old friend talked. Calibur watched with interest and respect, but he was still a little curious about why his old friend was here now, rather than on one of the heists he used to pull.
Calibur - "When did you get into the bartending business?" Cal asked, taking note of the scent released by the herbs as they were mashed up. It smelled good -- he could spot none of the poisons that his or any other clan used to work with, but it always paid to check.
Yasushi - "Well, while I was doing a spy job once, my cover identity was that of a bartender I'd knocked out, and I kind of took a shine to it." Yasushi was almost humming as he finished grinding out the paste and scooped it into a strainer. "Now I'm so good at it, I've taken to making new recipes from time to time."
Calibur - Calibur grinned at his old friend. "Are you saying that I'm about to get one of your specialties?"
Yasushi - Yasushi laughed. "Exactamundo! For frogs of our age, the vitality is more important than anything else!" The herbs were strained and the resultant juice poured into a shaker with a couple of shots of liquor and honey. It smelled very fresh. "I'm mixing you a glass of my special Golden Age, which should let others enjoy the taste of what it's like to be us!"
Calibur - Calibur's eyes widened a little bit at this boast. He knew how he felt already, he could feel the "vitality" brewing in his big cauldrons every moment. There was so much "vitality" between his legs that it was a miracle that he was even able to sit in this stool. "And for guys like us, who already feel this good?"
Yasushi - The shaker's cap was screwed on and Cal's bartender friend began to shake around the shaker, keeping his attention outward as the *shakka-shakka* of the shaker continued beside him. Yasushi merely smirked and said, "I think I'll let you weigh in on that one yourself."
Calibur - "Heh heh..." As the mystery of the drink hung in the air, another mystery chose to make space in Calibur's mind, oozing into the conversation like a friend who had just ordered the table a round of beers. "On that note, you used to boast that you'd never join a clan, not while the freelance work was so good. Now I've heard you're in talks with the Twinblade Clan?"
Yasushi - Yasushi didn't hesitate like Cal thought he might: It was a decision he'd clearly made peace with long ago. "Yep. All because of a girl."
Calibur - Calibur laughed boisterously and clapped his hands together." Ahaha! I get it, I totally get it! Old Sushi finally found a wife!"
Yasushi - Now it was Yasushi's turn to laugh out loud. "I wish! Heh heh... She was my student back in the day, but now she's a fully grown woman, and you know how it is when a woman invites you into her family..."
Calibur - The story brought Calibur a moment's recognition, and the vision of a svelte white Frogadier appeared in his mind. "Oooohh, I see!" As a former assassin, Cal was well-versed in this kind of sly speech. He and Yasushi were both skilled at the spy's art of alluding to more information than they actually spoke aloud. For these two, a good locking of eyes and a subtle nod spoke volumes, and within seconds, Calibur understood exactly why his old friend had allowed the clan life to take him. "Definitely a worthwhile reason to do it."
Yasushi - Yasushi smiled and gave an appreciative nod. "Thanks." The shaker was still going, but he let the pace slow down a little.
Calibur - "I remember her being quite cold to the touch," Calibur observed, tapping a finger against his tongue. "I suppose Twinblade does have a nice ring to it."
Yasushi - "Her subordinates do say she has a cold aura about her," Yasushi said, the soft green Greninja giving his old friend another sly smirk. "With me helping to advise her, I feel like it'll do a fine job filling in the spaces where the Rindo Clan used to dominate. Of course, I'm sure you don't mind, my old friend?"
Calibur - "Not at all, heh. As I've gotten used to the city life, I've learned that it pays to make good neighbors." Calibur shook his head, the thoughts of the bad old days coming back. He was glad it wasn't like that now. "The old blood feuds of our forefathers... What a waste, right? Think about how much could have been done with a goodwill visit!"
Yasushi - "Yeah, for real. I'm sure she wouldn't mind receiving you, Cal, but I'd wrap up if I were you." Yasushi had to hold his laughter in when he spotted the gray-eyed Clan Father's incredulous look. He knew he'd go there. "Let's just say the Twinblade is in a place where it's *very*cold. You'd probably freeze trying to walk out there in your current clothes."
Calibur - "... Oooh, I see." Calibur breathed a sigh of relief. That was a kind of *wrap-up* that made sense for him. "I'd probably melt all of the ice along the way, come to think of it! And what about you, my old *Silent Giant!* Don't tell me she's not aware of your own reputation!"
Yasushi - "A gentleman doesn't *Silent Giant* and tell, Calibur." The shaking was almost done. It was probably well pulverized in there by now, but those seeds had been hard like peppercorns. "Just like a lady shouldn't have to endorse the quality of her own cream pies."
Calibur - Calibur paused, then narrowed his eyes again. "You're not talking about the kind I think you are, right?"
Yasushi - The bartender raised his eyebrows and set down the shaker. Like the drink, the moment started to settle, its elements starting to bind. "Actually, I'm not. She's got a pie that can let you see the other world for the briefest of moments."
Calibur - The Clan Father of the Rindo Clan had a moment of awe as he considered what this might let him do. "... Are you telling me true, old friend? Her pastry can let me see the other world?"
Yasushi - "I'm not joking, Cal. I've seen it for myself..." He leaned a little closer and stared into Calibur's eyes. "You want to see her again, don't you?"
Calibur - "..." Calibur gave a return stare, and Yasushi was once again reminded that Cal's ability to harden was legendary. Just when he thought he'd seen a moment's vulnerability, Calibur had hardened his jaw and made it go away. "Can it be any flavor? I was thinking I haven't had a chocolate chess pie in a while."
Yasushi - Now it was Yasushi's turn to be surprised. "Chocolate chess? I thought you said that a pie so rich would never touch your tongue!"
Calibur - "Yeah. That's absolutely right." Calibur gave Yasushi a knowing nod. "It would never touch my tongue."
Yasushi remembered that Calibur had a daughter now, and there was one person that she'd never had the chance to meet. His eyes widened and he nodded.
Yasushi - "Oh. Yes! When you visit, I'll make sure that you have one to take back home with you." He then picked up the now-settled shaker and poured it out into a thin-stemmed cocktail glass. The fluid inside was a little closer to winter melon than it was gold, but it looked refreshing to behold as Yasushi placed the drink in front of Calibur. "But for today, this one's on the house, my friend. My own Golden Age..."
Calibur was a veteran of many years as a clan assassin and leader, and as such, he learned many tricks to keep enemies from getting a chance to exact revenge. He blinked his eyes carefully and peered into the soul of Yasushi's drink. If there was a single thing out of place, he would be able to point it out, but everything melded into a truly golden harmony. It was then that he knew that Yasushi had expected him to make that move: The truly "golden" look was fully visible to the Clan Father's second sight.
Calibur - "Yep, that's liquid gold, all right..." Calibur sighed with delight. He reached out and lifted the glass to his lips. "To the cares of an old friend! Cheers~!"
Calibur took the glass and tipped the contents down his throat, and as the fluid rolled across his tongue and went down his gullet, he began to feel its effects. A renewed source of energy coursed through his body, and his muscles began to swell with added power. The sound of bar stools clattering two seats away was pretty obvious, as was the cause of the sudden racket. *Every* muscle was getting stronger, and since he could still take on most Pokemon without fear, this was like tasting the liquor of the gods!
Calibur - "Whew! This is how I used to feel in the old days!" Calibur grinned, his eyes aglow with this rekindled power. "This is amazing! I'm surprised you can make this with plants, seeds, and a few classic liquors! What's your secret?"
Yasushi - "Heh heh, well, if you knew how to mix them like I do, you won't need to come back for more stories!" Yasushi gave a wide grin, happy that his old friend was enjoying this incredible drink. "The immediate visual effects should fade within two minutes, but you have two full days before your body returns to normal. What will you do with all of that strength?"
Calibur - Calibur let out a big laugh, standing up from the bar and letting his newfound strength rise up from the shelter of his hakama. "Bring me a horde of Charizards! I could take them all with my hands tied behind my back!"
Yasushi - Yasushi gave a friendly chuckle and grinned with admiration at just how little had changed with his old friend. "Yep... That's the same Calibur I used to know."
