Going to Japan is not as expensive as most people think. You can spend a week there for around $1500. That includes the round trip flight, hotel, and $500 for food and train expense while you are there if you go at the right time of the year. :) But I do recommend you go with someone who has been there at least once. It's easy to get lost.
