Bryce liked the woods, especially on a beautiful, clear night like tonight. It gave Bryce a proper moment to himself where he didn’t have to worry about anyone bothering him, and he didn’t have to worry about getting on any of his neighbor’s nerves.
As Bryce strolled through the forest, he periodically looked up at the star-filled night sky and sighed in awe…sometimes Bryce found himself wishing he was a nocturnal animal so he could spend his whole life in it.
Bryce shook his head, inwardly chuckling at that thought…
He knew it was a far-fetched thought…besides, Bryce still had a life to live, he couldn’t just give it up to live in the forest.
Soon after stopping that train of thought, Bryce caught sight of an owl standing on a branch. That on its own was already a very cool sight, but something else snatched Bryce’s attention….that being; the owl was staring right at him.
“Oh uh…hey there, little- well no…big guy.” Bryce spoke to the owl, slowly approaching it.
The owl let out a soft hoot after Bryce finished talking, and another ridiculous thought crossed Bryce’s head.
“Haha…can you understand me or something?” Bryce chuckled, followed by the owl hooting again.
“Guess that’s a yes?” Bryce said jokingly. He took a few more steps towards the owl, trying to examine it closer, eventually he fully locked eyes with the owl. At this point, Bryce found his body frozen in place…he just couldn’t take his eyes off the owl’s. It was almost supernatural…
Bryce tried to move, but couldn’t, and along with that, his body was beginning to tingle in a strange way. Like hundreds of invisible hair-combs were brushing over him. Bryce’s nervousness began to spike as he intensified his efforts to move. Of course, nothing happened. But eventually, the owl would blink and fly away, and Bryce’s body finally loosened up.
Bryce breathed a huge sigh of relief and fell to his now-weak knees. He panted repeatedly, trying to assuage his panic at whatever just happened. But all of that certainly wouldn’t be helped by the fact that the weird sensation was still plaguing him…
“Uggggh-! What’d that owl do to me…?!” Bryce said as he slowly got back to his feet. As soon as he did so, he felt his scalp beginning to itch. Bryce whimpered and began to scratch at his hair, but then he noticed something different about the feeling of it. It felt oddly softer, and more ‘accumulated’.
“Wh-What..?” Bryce mumbled as the hair, which had begun shifting into green feathers, began to grow all around his face, forming a hood of sorts.
“A-AAAAAAGH! WH-WHAT’S HAPPENING TO ME?! WHAT IS THIS?!” Bryce cried out in terror as his ears shrunk away into mere holes that were covered by his feather-hood.
While Bryce was panicking, his face began to be covered in short, downy feathers. They were primarily black and white, with black covering the top portion of his face, and white covering the bottom. Around his eyes, red feathers grew in a goggle-like marking. Bryce rapidly scratched his face, both from the itchiness that growing feathers caused, and in the hopes that he would scratch out the feathers. Of course, this did not happen. And while all this was happening, a longer, beige feather sprouted out of Bryce’s head.
Bryce’s eyes began to grow and sharpen, allowing him to see clear as day in the middle of the night, and his nose began to recede into his face, allowing the rest of his face to harden and grow out into a hooked beak.
Bryce’s panting grew ever quicker, and he fell back on the ground, clutching his head and clicking his new beak in panic. “It’s not real- it’s not real- it’s not-“ In what was almost an instant, Bryce’s entire arms were swallowed by light-brown feathers. His hands split up into three larger, more dexterous feathers. The sleeves of Bryce’s jacket ended up tearing from the bottom as the feathers rapidly grew in. “-RREEEEAAAL!” Bryce let out several more cries of terror as he flapped his wings in a childish attempt to get away from his changing self. In doing this, he knocked the remainder of his sleeves over his shoulders, allowing his wings to fully be free.
“H-Help me! Please, someone help!” Bryce screamed, only managing to cause some nearby crows to caw in annoyance and fly away.
Bryce’s whole body began to itch following his desperate cry for help. Bryce groaned in pain repeatedly from the incessant itching. He tried to scratch his torso with his finger-feathers, but the lack of nails in those fingers did little to assuage the maddening prickling that pervaded his entire being. So Bryce did the only thing he could: Roll over all over the ground and repeatedly rub himself against the earth in a despairing ploy to just get a little relief. In the process of doing this, Bryce’s ended up accidentally rolling his jacket right off, followed by his shirt getting caught on a root and being torn right off his body. Bryce sat up, gasping. The itching had finally stopped, but when Bryce looked down at himself, what he saw didn’t relieve his mental state at all…
His torso had been covered in cream-white feathers, along with that, his green feather-hood had grown to cover the entirety of his shoulders. Along with that, in the center where the two halves of the hood met, two dead leaves had grown out in an X formation, and there were also two long drawstrings hanging from it.
“Oh God…Oh dear God…!” Bryce cried. It was all too obvious that his humanity was draining out of him, and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Tears began to well up in his eyes as his legs and feet began to ache.
Bryce’s feet began to grow larger and longer, meanwhile his 5 toes fused into two razor-sharp talons, which quickly cut through his socks and shortly thereafter began poking through his shoes. Bryce let out another cry of pain as two more talons began to grow out of his heels, and swiftly they began to poke out of the backs of his shoes. It wouldn’t be long before the talons sliced the shoes and socks into pieces.
Tears still streaming down his face, Bryce slowly and shakily stood back up. Unbeknownst to him, while the feathers were growing, his body had slimmed up quite a bit, resulting in his pants falling right down.
“Augh-! No-!” Bryce whimpered as the last sign of his former humanity fell down around his talons. Bryce already knew there wouldn’t be any point in trying to wear them anymore, so he just stepped right out of them.
“Th-That fucking owl…” Bryce spat, trying to get used to walking around on his new talons. “Wh-When I find it I-I’m gonna- decidueye.”
Bryce covered his beak in shock.
“Wh-What’d I- eye?! D-Decidu-what’s goieye?! DECIDUEYE! D-DECID!”
Bryce tried to form a cohesive sentence in English, but all that came out were declarations of what he was now. And while the Decidueye was struggling against its owl being, it suddenly began wondering…why was it struggling to begin with? Hadn’t it been this way its whole life?
The Decidueye stood still for several more moments as its former human consciousness faded away into little more than a fleeting afterthought. The Decidueye shook its head around, internally chastising itself for those odd, pointless thoughts, then it flew up onto a nearby branch and looked up towards the night sky…a small smile spread across its beak as that familiar feeling hit it…
The feeling of home.----
Damn, this is the second time Bryce has TFed into an owl of some sort
