This wasn't suppose to be a comical picture, in fact far from it. The original sketch was meant to either show Willie having a panic of fear & guilt, something he struggles with quite often, or cringing from Barnabas and his cane. Well, I opted not to add that to it and instead, stuck a little bat in the picture. Dark Shadows, having run in the 60's, had some awesome special effects...including rubber bats on strings! Kickass, right? ROFLOL. So, now we have a funny picture...but also kind of sad too.
I just rewatched "House of Dark Shadows" for the first time in years, the original movie spin off of the series. The movie is much darker, and dare I say sadder, than the series. Unlike the series, the characters don't have as much time to develop their relationships with one another as well an Barnabas is developed into more of a villain than he was in the series. A villian you feel sorry for, nonetheless. Still, for an hour and a half they portray them well. Willie is, by no doubt, the unsung hero of this movie. No, I'm not just being biased! Watch it...carefully.
**SPOILER ALERT. DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE OR DON'T LIKE SPOILERS**
After Jeff Clark (Maggie's stupid boy toy that I really never paid much attention to lol...he's such a boring stereotype) is under Barnabas' possession, he's helpless to do any further damage to his plans. He can only stand there and watch, as Barnabas says, his "witness" to the forced wedding. Shot in the back by Jeff with the stake meant for Barnabas, it's Willie that picks up the dropped stake and using his last ounce of strength, drives it into Barnabas' back. Jeff takes over after Barnabas knocks Willie away. Then he also takes all the credit, carries off Maggie and never even checks on Willie. Quite a hero! Meh, Jeff is such a boring character, and not the hero of that movie imo. No, the real hero was still laying there on the ground...just severely injured, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, Barnabas turned into a bat and flew away after the credits ran. :p
