I haven't had a chinchilla before, so I can't compare the two, but I do enjoy my rattie boys. |3 If you do get a rat, I recommend getting them in same sex pairs. They are much happier that way. Also, either get them from a breeder or adopt from a rescue or the humane society. They are usually much healthier than getting them from a pet store.
