I'm sorry, this is something I had to do.
The music is inspired by the anthem (which I deemed to cheery).
I will never forget your sacrifice, miss. :salute:
For Dezik, Lisa, Bars, Lisichka, Pchyolka and Mushka (who was one of the other dogs, along with Albina, who trained for the Sputnik-2 mission).

Epic job I will say~
The frames of the animation are very nicely drawn, and the stylization of the group picture into an old photo was a great idea. Very fitting music also.
If works like this is what you meant to start doing now in your current jounral, then I greatly approve this way.

The "photograph" u painted is so beautiful too
Good job... now u r my top artist
If I know more english I would writte more lol x3, I can't redact too well
I hope u keep doing things like this
Kisses sexy

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I think music can really expand a few simple images a lot... It's a very powerful tool, because it can direct the viewers emotions and add motion to a still image. For a space geek like me the subject is already loaded with emotions, of course. Pioneers in space, tragedies and triumphs.
Yeah, especially since they were forced by the Soviet leaders to rush the project (only four weeks to design and build the craft!). They just didn't have time to make a re-entry plan. Every mission before and after had a re-entry plan. I know the scientists involved were heartbroken whenever a mission failed, so they must've felt awful knowingly sending her to her death.
Well, this was way back when they weren't even sure what the effects of a living being would be in space. It was also during the cold war when the US and Soviet were racing to be the first to put a man in space, in orbit and eventually on the moon. In '75 the US and Soviet launched a joint space operation, docking an US Apollo craft with a Soviet Soyuz in space, conducting experiments together and effectively ending the space race. Ultimately, there's so much good that has come from the space race... not just advances in technology (everything from aerodynamics to kitchen appliances), but pushes for better education and even environmental movements. This tribute Flash isn't just about the tragic death of a dog, but also what that dog (and the other animals and early astronauts/cosmonauts and scientists) pioneered.
No, I agree... although if they'd been given more time they could've made re-entry calculations and designed a better temperature control system (which in turn would've enabled them to learn more from the mission). As I said in another comment, this is a tribute not to the death of a dog, but to what this dog (and the others), the cosmonauts/astronauts and the scientists managed to achieve. In the end, putting a man on the moon is tiny compared to all the technological, educational and political/environmental advances the space race gave us.
Not many people realize the sacrifices made in the name of advancement. Even if it was 'just a dog'... it was still a life, and she trained to serve her country just as any cosmonaut did. The things learned from her sacrifice were immense, but it was still a sacrifice. The story always chokes me up when I read about it, and this just puts that sort of into imagery and sound.
Beautiful work and it shows how far one will go to be the first to achieve something.
I didn't notice any posts referring Jonathan Coulton's song 'Space Doggity' Here is a YouTube link with good visuals.

It isn't a comment on the politics or atrocities of WWII/Cold War era Soviet (or modern day Russia, for that matter). Since it's so obvious that the Laika mission would pale in comparison to those (in fact, the space race is one of the few positive things that came out of the cold war), why would you presume I was making this out to be a great atrocity?
ps. I'm not sure I would consider Laika a tragedy. Sure it's sad and a lot of things went wrong with the Laika mission (and the Soviets didn't learn that much from the "dog missions"), but it wasn't really a tragedy. The flash was meant to be an homage (and a joke about my own sentimentality, I suppose). It's about the history of space travel (not just Soviet space travel... I just chose Laika because of my fond memories of "My Life as a Dog").
