A grand auditorium at the Hau'oli University Campus is moderately filled, many people from across the regions are in attendance at this year's prestigious International Book Awards being held at the Alolan Region. After a mere handful of names were announced for winners at various categories the speaker finally reached a certain category.
"...and the award for Rising Author For the Next Generation goes to..." The purrloin opened a little envelope, he smiled warmly, "...Ms. Fang Hekili with her rising Tales of Arran series!" The audience applauded for such a stunning victory, rising from her seat and making her way down the aisle was Fang in a black colored plunging V-neck dress. Her hair is done beautifully covering her right eye while wearing her signature straw hat. Her boyfriend, Blade as well as Fang's parents happily applaud with her mom especially all teary eyed at her daughter's great accomplishment.
"All right, Fang!" Soleil called...taking up at least 4 seats with her huge frame. She was wearing a dark red dress with her hair down and brushed, and a pearl necklace.
Fang steps up to the podium to accept the award, she stares at it for a few moments taking in just how real this moment is. She clears her throat as she has a few words to say. "Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated with fantasy epics from both sides of the ocean. From One Piece to the Lord of the Rings, from The Odyssey to Fairy Tail. I write my stories not only as a cushion to move through our world for kids, but for everyone as well." She chuckles a tad, "Found family is sure a helluva thing huh? Someone can be a complete stranger one day to being a brother, or sister..." She looked up to the crowd to lock eyes with Blade with a blush, "To even a lover. I'm just a drop in the bucket in an endless sea of stories. So keep writing, let no one stop you till you're like a shining star in the night sky. Thank you!" She was soon met with roaring applause as she stepped down from the podium.
Another hour would pass as the rest of the recipients would be announced, before finally after it was all said and done the whole crowd was at the after party being hosted outside under the moonlight. Many high prestigious publishing companies fish their way through the crowds making offers to the awarded authors or scouting for fresh new authors. Though Fang was set with her current publisher.
"Quite a wondrous speech Ms. Hekili" Her empoleon friend smiling, clinking their glasses against each other, this time making sure that Fang's drink was not alcoholic.
"Oh thank you June" Fang smiled, sipping on her apple cider.
"I'm pleased to let you know that your recent release of your second novel has already matched the sales of your first~" He smirked.
"I know right~?!" Fang grinned with her cheeks sparking with her electricity, it had been several months since the alcohol incident that led to her first time with Blade and ever since then the chapters were practically flowing out of her head right to the screen. "I'm already one fourth done with the 3rd book and I'm thinking of making some side stories~"
"Ah, expanding, I see!" said June. "Very good!"
Suddenly, Lola came up and hugged Fang from behind, causing her to laugh.
"We're so proud of you~!" she said.
"Fang you're a rising star in the world~!" Solly exclaimed.
"You're internationally renowned now~!!" Lola added, who definitely packed on several more pounds in recent weeks. "So how many more books are you planning to write in the main story?"
"I'm thinking around 6 books, nice and even with some side stories on the side to keep world building" Fang explained.
"Good idea!" replied Soleil. "Fleshing it out is pretty good!"
"Miss Fang a picture for the articles please~!?" Several reporters take photos of the event.
"Miss Fang, perhaps we can get a movie deal out of your work~?"
"Miss Fang how bout an interview special at the Channel 5 news!"
"Whoa whoa, one at a time now boys!" Solly exclaimed, "She's just one woman!"
Fang couldn't help but sweatdrop. She didn't realize she'd be so popular. She had to admit, it was rather overwhelming.
Meanwhile, Fang's parents were by the punch bowl, chatting with each other. "Enjoying the party you guys?" Blade comes over with a glass of cider.
"Oh this place is wonderful. I've never been so proud of our Fang" Kau exclaimed with her tail wagging happily.
"To think she'd get this popular with these high tiered people while keeping her heart humble" Hector beamed.
"Just goes to show how much we love Fang huh?" Blade asked, "Speaking of which I want to ask you guys something."
"Yes, dear?" asked Kau.
"Umm...well...this isn't easy to say," Blade replied while scratching the back of his head.
"C'mon no reason to get all choked up now" Hector smiled, "We're family at this point~!"
"That's the thing..." Blade takes a deep breath. "Kau...Hector......I wish to marry your daughter, so I'm asking for your blessing."
Both Kau and Hector both gaped in surprise.
"I know what you're thinking," said Blade. "This sounds really sudden, but...I...I've actually given it a lot of thought and...I've never been more certain of anything in my life than this."
"Are you sure, absolutely sure?" Hector asked.
"Ever since Fang paid for Cara's treatment....I've never been more sure of anything in my entire life" Blade said with confidence, "So please....let me marry your daughter, I swear on my honor as a lucario to be the best husband I can be"
Kau and Hector both looked at each other...before they nodded their heads.
"We do have conditions," said Kau.
"Of course! Name them!" Blade said.
"If you two have kids, more specifically daughters, name one of them after my grandmother Lucy" Hector said.
"Yeah, okay!" Blade replied.
"Second," Kau began, "if you hurt my little Fang in any way, you better be prepared for me to bust your kneecaps." Blade gulped at that and swiftly nodded his head. "And thirdly....make sure you make her happy as much as you can. Whether it be her shoulder to cry on or someone to lean on when the stresses of motherhood become too much. Promise me you'll be by her side." Kau said, staring deep into Blade's eyes to his very soul.
"Of course, I will," he said without hesitation.
"And lastly...and this is the most important" Hector said as he firmly put his hand on Blade's shoulder, he then put on a soft smile. "...make sure you're happy too"
"A good marriage is to make sure you both are happy and support each other after all" Kau smiled as she nodded, "You have our blessing"
"...Thank you..." Blade said with a smile. "Thank you both so much!"
"Do you have a ring in mind already~?" Kau asked.
"If she's okay with it....it's going to be an evolution ring," Blade said.
"Hah! Just like dad did with mom~!" Kau exclaimed, "I should call you son already~!" Blade smiled, wagging his tail happily.
With her parents blessing in hand, and after a long night of mingling with so many producers the couple were finally back home. Fang practically kicked off her heels as she plopped flat on her bed.
"Finally bed!" Fang huffed from exhaustion. "That was too much even for me, too many offers"
"Boy tell me about it" Blade said, massaging her back a tad. "Hey babe? Can I ask you something before we sleep?"
"Sure what's up babe?"
"....how do you feel about evolving into a raichu?"
Fang suddenly tensed up before she glanced back at him. "W...what now?"
"Have you thought about evolving into a raichu?"
Fang paused a tad still tense, "....what brought this on huh?"
"Well I um....isn't normal growing up, we're almost to our late 20s now" he can't let her know he's planning to propose to her yet.
"Did mom put you up to this?" she asked.
"No absolutely not"
"She did, didn't she?!" Fang asked. "Oh, I knew it!!"
"Babe I swear she didn't!" Blade said.
"Uggh I swear if this is another frickin ploy to get me to evolve then forget. I evolve on MY terms, not hers!" Fang huffed as Lolly started to whimper from the sudden anger.
"Fang, I swear, it's not like that!" Blade exclaimed.
"Then why the sudden interest?!" Fang asked. "What, you don't think I'm good enough the way I am, now?!"
"Well...y-you see....." Blade pursed his lips.
"You know what, forget it, you're sleeping on the couch tonight!" Fang yelled out as she shoved him out of the bedroom, tossed him a blanket & pillow before slamming the door at his face.
"But...but Fang, I...!" Blade stammered before he sighed. "...Goodnight, babe..."
He sighed as he trudged onwards to the couch, making himself comfortable after turning off the lights. Laying there he pulled out his phone to text a friend.
Solly I need your advice on something, got time for a quick meet up tomorrow? he texted Soleil. He gets a reply.
Of course, dear! Just say the time and place! She replied.
Thanks. I'll see you then. He texted back before he turned his phone off.
The next morning was a tad tense for the couple, as Fang immediately went to work on her next novel only giving Blade a rough 'good morning'. Lolly whimpered up to Blade's leg in worry for Fang's mood.
"Don't worry girl, she's mad at me not you. Hopefully I can fix this" Blade gave her a little pet on the head before heading out for her meeting. Eventually he would meet up with the large primarina at the local cafe for a quick cup of coffee.
"Hey Solly" Blade smiled though still a little defeated.
"Hello Blade, last night was absolutely wonderful. What's with the dark clouds hanging over your head?" Solly asked, drinking her mocha espresso.
"Well....I need your help understanding something for what I have planned."
"And that is?"
Blade took another deep breath, "I plan to propose to Fang"
Solly's eyes went wide as she dropped her cup of coffee.
"...Holy crap...!" she cursed.
"I got the engagement ring and everything," Blade blushed.
"Eeeeeee~!! Blade I'm so happy for you!" Solly squeed, "but what was the problem then?"
"Well....it's an evolution ring and last night I asked about how she felt about evolving into a raichu and well......we had a fight" Blade hung his head, "Even this morning all she said 'good morning' and that was it. Did I do something wrong to offend her?"
"Oh....Oh dear." Solly sighed as she picked up her cup to drink what's left of her brew. "Here's the thing Blade, it's not that she doesn't want to evolve. It's just during high school, Kau was immensely pushy towards Fang evolving since a majority of pikachus evolved at that time."
"Is that why she asked if her mom was in on it?" Blade asked. "I wanted to keep it a surprise but I wanted to be sure she was okay with evolving."
"Evolving people is very different than evolving wild pokemon dear"
"...I...I didn't realize that it was such a sore topic for her," Blade said. "I just thought that maybe this would make her happy."
"I understand what you're saying, hon," Soleil said. "You don't wanna make her feel like she's being forced into this."
He plants his face on the table, "Ugggh I'm such an idiot!"
"Listen hon, Fang loves you with all her heart and soul. I'm sure she'd more than happy to say yes and slip on that ring when you go pop the question"
"But what can I do to fix this?"
"That's really not my place to say, I've seen many proposals at my restaurant, each one unique in their own way. Find your place to ask for it, a place where both you and Fang are happy."
"A place where she and I are happy..." Blade whispered before he gasped, getting an idea. "That's it~!!!" Blade stood up, spilling coffee on his shirt.
"Ooh!" Soleil winced while Blade bit his lip at how hot it was.
"...I'm okay...!" the Lucario whispered.
"You're sure?"
".....Not really no..." He whimpered looking down at the brown stain that had a scalding heat. He coughed a tad, "But I know what I have to do, thanks Solly!" He hobbled over to his car still wincing from the pain. Soleil merely sighed and shook her head, but smiled nonetheless.
"Good luck out there Blade" She muttered, "You're the perfect husband for Fang~" She drank some more of her brew, though upon seeing that it's empty she turned to the barista, "Excuse me! More mocha please~!"

A while later, Blade came back to the house and hurried inside, where Lolly soon came to greet him.
"Arf arf~!" Lolly happily barked as she jumped at Blade's legs.
"Hey girl, is Fang still home?" He asked the little pup.
Lolly whimpered, lowering herself to the floor.
"...Oh, no..." Blade muttered before he looked around, and that's when he found a note on the coffee table.
Blade,
I've gone out for a while to cool off because I couldn't concentrate on my work. I'll be back...whenever.
Don't wait up.
Fang.
"Frick...." Blade scolded himself, but then he thinks about it. "Lolly I think I know where Fang is, and it's now or never" He rushes back into the bedroom, throwing open his cabinet. Lolly watches inquisitively as he digs through his boxes.
"ruff?" Lolly barked curiously.
"C'mon where is it? Where is it?" he muttered, "I know I put it in here! AHA!!" he pulled out a little red-velvet coated box. He breathes a sigh of relief as he checks the content, "Thank Palkia it's still here!"
With that, he turned and ran out, grabbing Lolly so that she wouldn't be alone in the house. Once he did, he got in the car and drove off.
Where Fang was, is the very beach by Ten Karet Hill. The calm waves gently crashed against the sandy beach as she sat at the nearby park bench hugging her knees deep in with her thoughts.
'Why now....of all times She tugged the rims her straw hat as a memory comes up.
*Flashback*
"But why did you have to leave now!?" A younger freshly evolved pikachu that is Fang, one that has yet to have her signature straw hat. chirped up at her elder brother, Jordan ‘Keith’ Hekili.
"Cause I gotta do my duty little sis, the army needs strong people like me to make sure you guys are safe here in Alola" The elder brother said as he was packing his duffel bag.
"But I'm strong too!!" She huffed sparking her cheeks, "I just evolved!"
"Ha! You're strong~?" He smirked sticking his tongue out, "What was our score nowadays~? 15 - 0"
"I'll show you! I'll train harder and be a strong raichu just like you!!!" Her cheeks puffed up as her eyes start welling up with tears
"Well then..." he took off his straw hat and placed it on her head, "Hold on to this for me, then when you're strong enough I'll gladly take it back~"
"Promise?" She sniffled.
"Promise~" He smiled.
*Flashback end*
"...What a joke," Fang said, bitterly. "How could you say that...and then..." She clenched her teeth and and her fists as tears fell from her eyes...and then yelled out at the top of her lungs.
"YOU PROMISED YOU'D COME BACK TO ME!!!!"
She shouted out the calm sea, panting.
"WHY'D YOU HAVE TO GO AND DIE LIKE THAT HUH!?" She cried as tears streamed down her face, "I WAS GONNA EVOLVE FOR YOU!!!" Then, she dropped down to her knees...and sobbed.
"...I really needed you, you know...?" she asked. "Especially now!" she sniffled, wiping her tears off her face, "You.....you would've loved Blade.....and Lolly....." She sobbed, "Big bro Keath" her ears flick hearing a car coming up in the nearby parking lot. She didn't turn around...but somehow, she knew who it was.
"Yip yip!!" Lolly barked out before hoping out of the car door once Blade parked.
"Fang!" Blade yelled out, only to receive the silent treatment.
Lolly whimpered as she went up and nuzzled Fang, who gently stroked her fur.
"...Fang...I'm sorry," Blade said. "The last thing I wanna do is hurt you."
Fang turned around...revealing her tearful eyes.
"Fang....I'm sorry I hurt you, it's just I wanted to be sure..."
"Sure about what? That you were in on with mom to get me to evolve?" She seethed, her eyes still burning from the salty tears.
"I stand by what I said, your mom has nothing to do with what I asked last night. But Fang..." He sat down, "I have to know, why do you feel so strongly about this?"
She sniffled a couple times, "....Before my brother died, he gave me this hat for safekeeping. Not only to watch over me, but it was also a promise to him to get stronger. When he gave me this hat I was in such a hurry to get stronger." Lolly licked her hand to help soothe whatever pain Fang was feeling, "So...you can imagine the horrible awakening I had when we found out he died during his deployment"
"Fang.....I'm so so sorry" Blade said, wrapping his arm around her as they sat on the sand.
"After that mom went a tad nuts.....she wanted me to evolve during high school so badly, just to bring some sense of normalcy, to replace the void my brother left. Before I moved out....." She sniffled, "....we had a real nasty fight. Thunderbolts traded, words shouted.....we had a really fierce battle before sharing a really hard cry. We were both hurting"
"...I had no idea..." Blade said, sadly. "I'm so sorry. I...I didn't know."
"It's okay...you couldn't have known," Fang replied.
"Now for my question.....why did you ask last night?" Fang sniffled feeling a little better being the loving arms of her boyfriend.
"Well I wanted to be sure you were okay with it before I asked," Blade said.
"Ask what?"
'Now's a good time as ever' Blade thought to himself, "Fang, these past few years have been incredible not just to me but to my whole family. You got rid of that witch Mariah, you helped cure my sister's condition, and every day feels like a complete joy just to be at your side."
"Aww, Blade..." Fang said. "I...I feel the same way you do. You've made me so happy and...I don't know what I'd do without you."
"So then let me ask you this.." He then pulls out the red velvet box and opens it up, Fang gasps in shock seeing a pristine gold ring and at its center, instead of a usual diamond, it's a carved thunder stone in the shape of a heart. "Fang Hekili....would you marry me?"
