A question to the stars
——————————————————
Far below, the empty city streets lay silent, abandoned by its glimmering cars and unique yet unremarkable people. The windows of the many storied buildings shed no light on this forgotten land, whatever semblance of life they used to hold gone without so much as an echo to tell future explorers of the stories once living here. The rooftops, for the most part, display more of the same—save one, the building holding it up not being any more important than its neighbors, save for the small creature resting on its head. A small, silent, brown eyed wolf looked up from the rooftop, staring into the star-filled sky as he let the thin city air flow in and out of his lungs, collecting his thoughts before speaking.
“…I wonder if anyone will hear this. I suppose it doesn’t matter if they do, or don’t, but if there is someone out there, let me ask you this.”
He paused a few moments, closing his eyes as his ears flicked and twitched back and forth, tilting his head down and opening his eyes once more to stare into the dark paths of a society long forgotten.
“Why is it that we hate each other? That we find fault in others, knowing we bear guilt and wrongdoings ourself? Why is it that one cannot feel free to be who they are, when we all wish people could be open, could be true to their nature, speaking their hearts and minds freely?”
His words slowed once more as he looked to the side, gazing out into the horizon of the endless city, no hint of nature or life beyond himself appearing to fulfill his search, not here, at least.
“…I suppose I know that answer well enough. The carnal need for safety, and for being ‘right’ where others are wrong are likely core to the issue. But…enough of that.”
He gazed back up to the sky, to its neverending planets and solar systems, to its eternal chances of friendship, of comradery, of something beyond what he knew now.
“…Is there anything you’d like to know about me? I’d enjoy sharing who and what I am, if you seek answers.”
