Nightmare is the future form of Draugusk (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55843070/).

After the fall of Rive the undead skyields that Rive raised to do her bidding wandered the lands of Lutumire until they eventually either rotted away or were hunted down and destroyed. The souls of these undead, no longer bound by cursed magic, would then pass on to join their ancestors in the Shimmering Ponds peacefully. However, Draugusk was an exception to this.

After witnessing the defeat and demise of the sorceress he once served Draugusk would wander the lands aimlessly while plotting vengeance for Rive's death. Eventually his body would decay away and the magical flames that had kept him animated as a corpse slowly consumed his spirit throughout the process. The loss of the fading last remnants of his mortal life memories and the corruption of his soul would prevent him from following his peers into the Shimmering Ponds and thus he would become a skeletal specter haunting the nights of Lutumire.

Now known as Nightmare, Rive's former henchman moves around the nights and enters the dreams of skyields turning even the sweetest dreams into terrifying nightmares. Although this behavior started out of a desire for revenge on skyieldkind his reasons would gradually shift to the simple fact he grew to enjoy haunting and tormenting the dreams of skyields. He will often observe individuals during the day to see what makes them tick, and he will even return to the same individual from time to time to see in what new terrifying ways he can play with his victim.

Nightmare goes by many names in different cultures, but overall he is known to most folklore and tales as the demon who haunts the dreams of skyields everywhere. He is in reality a creature of malice and hatred, while also suffering himself in isolation and pain, and he endlessly stalks the night waiting for the return of his master.
