RIP James Sikking
I was shocked hearing the passing of James Sikking. He was an active TV actor on shows like Hogans Heroes, Bob Newhart Show, Perry Mason, Rawhide, The Fugitive, Incredible Hulk. But his role as Lt Howard Hunter in Hill Street Blues stood out, along as Doogie Howser, M.D. as Doogie's dad.
In his film career, He stood out in Outland as Sgt Montone, Star Trek III as Captain Styles, Electric Horseman as Dietrich and in Soul Man as Bill Watson.
But to me, he'll always be the SWAT leader from Hill Street Blues.
Stand down Lieutenant, you earned it. You and Sgt Esterhaus can politely argue at your leisure.

Also, Bob Morton doubles as the NX-2000's Helm Officer long before Clarence Boddicker does him in, in Robocop (1987). And of course, Kurtwood Smith, Ray Wise, Ronny Cox and Peter Weller all went on to do Trek as well.
I know the 'discipline truncheon stick' was intended to make Captain Styles look like a little more of a pointy-lapeled super-dignity authority bigshot, but that would've been absurdly stupid as an actual item the Executive Bridgeman carried around. "Uh, sorry, my hand slipped while we had an inertial dampener atypicality and my rod fired out at supersonic-relative speed and through the Helm's skull, so you'll have to get another actor to play Bob. Really, I am. I don't think I could be personally responsible for another fudgeup that big on the Excelsior's bridge."

Lt Hunter had a soft spot for shar pei puppies. Hunter had his own tank for the E.A.T. (SWAT) team...it didn't go too well.
Sikking had a silent cameo in the infamous Cop Rock as Lt Hunter when the desk sergeant sang "Let's Be Careful Out There" at morning roll call.
Sikking and Daniel Travanti even guest starred together in a Cannon (William Conrad as the overweight private eye) episode and appeared in a same scene. Travanti as a killer and Sikking as a hitchhiker and murder victim.

Outland a excelent movie . It was a western triller in space.." ( Ohhhh Red ...would you mind sending Flinters to assigned to a tour of duty at the titanium ore mining outpost Con-Am 27 on the Io Moon Of Jupiter. ? I bet he would get a bang out of that place..."
I remember James Sikking in Outland. I think he was head to head with Sean Connery in that film.
