Steiner was always more to me than just the oafish bodyguard. On the surface he's a bit of a bumbler, but he is intensely loyal to his cause even to the point of defying his own queen, something that his female counterpart wasn't capable of until it was very nearly too late.
The man's strength of character in the face of overwhelming odds is unfathomable.
I have to say, Adelbert Steiner, Captain of The Knights of Pluto, is without a doubt my absolute most favorite final fantasy character.

I really had my opionion of S. shift over the course of the game when I realized that he isn't a bumbler at all. He isnt even self conscious. He IS a devout an capable member of the royal military and a knight, and definitely sets people on pedestals that he sacrifices himself to keep from wobbling. I like to think that he appears to be a bit of an oaf because of a complete disregard for his own ego. What should he care if he is tripping? He has his honor, and that is the most important thing.
Nice portrait by the way.

I don't really relate to any of the cast of IX, but I liked it over VII for the extra and more easily accessible depth.
If you like books and reading more into videogames and their worlds/characters than the average Joe (and you do seem to), there's a book out there called Final Fantasy and Philosophy.
