Just to spoil concession for you; Joel hooked Artie up with a nine year old child, used psychic powers to aggriavate Artie's Cancer, brought ruin and suffering to everyone Artie cared about as Joel used them as pawns, amongst less memorable details that I'm omitting for brevity.
I'm rather skeptical, .. I mean, it'd require a massive rate of character development on Joel. I mean, he did admit he was confused, and I believe Matt said he could help him, after figuring out he was pretty much far past it, that he wanted to murder his brother (For reasons that were explained, but legitimate motivations are dubious and contradictary.)
That and the future strip of him and matt battling Father Tim and Chelsie, kinda showed they didn't change much, which makes them more 'iconic' characters, in the sense they stay true to their developed or established principles and not move past that, unless necessary but quickly reverts like nothing ever happened.
Perhaps your future webcomic may shred some light by giving them cameo apperances, that would show a change in their social dynamic, but if I were a gambling gal, I'd place my money on them drifting further apart.

I'll be honest, if my childhood friend got a child to rape me and severely aggravated my cancer I'd be hardpressed to forgive them, whatever the circumstances.
Also, Millicent can't have him. He's mine. :3 Just to, y'know, throw a spanner in the works with everyone loving on Joel and Matt all the time.
Artie's always been my favourite.

Nope! Not ever! <--- *Is a total buzzkill. :D*
In all seriousness though, their views of morality that conflict each other is too much in the way for them to be friends again. At this point, one of them has to change dramatically, probably though a powerful epiphany, in order for there to be a chance of a mended friendship.

Plus, if Joel followed through on crashing the wedding like he promised....

As I see things, it would take A LOT to get that friendship started again, if they would even want to go there. Quite honestly, I thought they were gonna kill each other. And really, I couldn't blame Artie if he had done that. Either way, this is a cute picture that has its own merit.
Then again, I hate Joel since the last parts of Concession, so I dunno if I'd be the right person to ask about this.

Well, I suppose it could've been, I mean Joel used the same trick as it were, to let Matt's dad see the 'error of his ways' that is, if He was the one that had a same-sex partner, altering the memories of his wife, so that she was male.
But I thought when Artie used it, it was showing him memories of what happened before, but yeah, it could be a "What if" scenario, but I'm convinced Joel and Artie was friends before hand.

May sound odd but I think so. I mean they both more or less tried to kill each other. And there biggest tragedies, AKA the two ghost girls on there back, weren't caused by one another. If they can both let the wrongs done to one another drop, maybe find support from one another, I think they could be great friends, I think deep down they both want it that way, even though there first reaction is to kill each other x3
I'd like to start out by saying how much I like this. Reminds me of a faded memory.
As far as Joel and Artie being friends again, that's a definite yes. What I'm seeing from a lot of people posting comments here are the same old tired standards their elders fed them. People change, but that doesn't have to be a HUGE change to matter. People also forgive, so to all these people who bring up "he tried to murder him twice!" that just angers the crap out of me. Yes, that is true, Joel did try to kill him on several occasions, but he was also under the influence of another entity AND mental duress. It's already been shown that Joel and Artie are back on speaking terms, and their relationship is playful, if a bit wary. Artie will probably always hold suspicion against Joel, but keep in mind people, Artie is also a killer. Neither is innocent, and I think their shared experiences will give them something to bond over. There's much to be said on how the past fades in people's minds, and if Joel can get over a lifetime of planning to murder his own brother, then he's definitely showing signs of redemption (although he was never actually "evil" so much as ruthless, looking at you there Furlooker, you putz). Now, putting their grudges behind them, as they seem to have been doing at the end of Concession I'd say they have the basis for a strong friendship.
I'd also like to point out that all of Joel's other friends still hold him close, because they understand why he was doing such cruel things. Joel can express tenderness just as much as any of the others, and it's not uncommon for his character to do so at any given time. Good grief people, start looking past the judgements your parents taught you and THINK FOR YOURSELVES!

In the real world? No. I mean, Joel not only tried to kill Arty multiple times but he tried to ruin not just Arty but basically everyone they've ever known. I'm still a bit annoyed that Joel's even alive still, because he's alienated and tried to kill the vast majority of the cast either directly or indirectly.
That said, fiction is full of villian/"hero"/hero friendships. And I'd like to see them get back together, if only because their banter, when it was still comedic, was enjoyable.
Besides, fishing solves all problems. It's a fact of male-male bonding.

Joel, I feel so sad for him now that I know the whole story.
In truth, Joel is a decent minded being just like Artie. They also have a select few things in common.
Problem is an evil spirit wants to posses Joel and make him do horrible stuff and he has trouble coping with this evil spirit being his dead sister, who was murdered, by his brother. As long as that evil bitch is tormenting Joel and performing her sick psychotic desires to ruin everyone's life, it would be difficult.
Artie knows the situation finally after meeting up with *spoiler* but even then, it would be difficult to save Joel from both himself and his undead sister. Hopefully Artie manages to save Joel in the future and they can be friends... until then... well, we just have to hope they live that long...

I'de like to hope so
I'm not going to go through every single little thing I know about concession (which is surprisingly is a Lot as it was my favourite Webcomic while it was still going)
I personally believe that if they where going to drop the hate for each other and talk about it they Could but Joel doesn't seem like the type to actually talk to anyone but Matt.
So In short they could but probably wouldn't in Canon well at least not any time soon

"Do you guys think they can ever be friends again? "
WE WILL NEVER KNOW, BECAUSE YOU ENDED THE COMIC, YOU NASTY EVIL PERSON! I HATE YOU T.T
Seriously though... I dunno, I strongly believe nobody is beyond redemption, but they would both need a whole heck of a lot of it to be able to come back together.
I'd like to think their friendship was reforged when Joel crashed Artie and Millicent's wedding... by popping out of their wedding cake... with his fur dyed white and wearing one of Millicent's lingerie sets.
Yep. Something like that is bound to rekindle friendships... or have squirrel's asking for divorces the next day.

First and foremost, I would like to point out that, since these are fictitious characters, they can love or hate as much as Immelmann wants them to,
That being said, it is always possible for them to become friends. After reading the concession chronicles' entry of Joel "crashing" Artie's wedding, not only did the mouse expect Joel to follow through on his threat, he was able to single him out and confront him. Artie knew the whole time that Joel was in his female persona, but didn't evict him from the wedding.
Or maybe Artie wanted to brag that he was happy to Joel, to say he had the final laugh.
I think that Artie and Joel do want to continue to be friends, but are letting their history get in the way. So, they will continue to be each others enemies, only because they don't want the other out of their life.
Then again, I could be reading too much into this :p
