rnixon's otter girl Haukena, a fertility shaman,pregnant and offering thanks to the sunset.
i'm posting these three alternate versions of this picture that were done back in 2012 - the only differences being the colour of the border. The one posted back then was rnixon's fave ( i think it's my fave as well ) from around a dozen or so. Since the only difference was the border colour i didn't think it was worth posting my fave variants...but, over the years i started to think "why not post them?" and i couldn't see a good reason not to ... so ....
i'll move these versions to scraps in a few days.
Along with posting these i upped the resolution of the orginal to 4k as well :

i started to develop the current 'Lachland Nightingale' style (a pen name) about 12 yrs ago based on my a gazillion of my fave artist combined with the styles of some of the early furry artists such as Terrie Smith, Michele Light, Steve Gallacci, Vicky Wymann, Stan Sakai, etc etc. Combined with elements a few of my fave fantasy/comix artists such as Vaughn Bode, Jeffrey Jones, Frank Frazetta, Moebius, etc - So you might like checking out these artists works.
When i made this i was trying to challenge myself a bit. i worked at 11x17 inches, using multiple sheets of paper on a light table and a few different coloured pencils for the various costume and background elements - then brought it all together on a trad ink paper level - Scanned the inking (then cleaned-up the scan - whiting out pencil and ink oopsies) and then the digital colouring started ... Working at 4491x6336 px the colouring took from Nov to Dec 2012 i don't recall if it took that long because a lack of free time or what. Putting detail into a pic involves planning and grunt work, but it's worth the effort when it creates a sort of neat visual buzz.
There are some pics where i'm on my A game ... and some where i don't see the compositional possibilities/colour/theme/mood etc . pics that end up ok. ( and also the i didn't know what i was doing pics - some teen pics and early days of digital ) - some cringe moments and some "Yeah ... that's okay." satisfied moments.
