Deers aren't exactly what one thinks of as creatures of voracious nature. Looks can be deceiving.
How'd this happen? Maybe their horn or tail resembled a leaf, and they just kept eating without regard. Maybe the prey dived in and couldn't resist. Or, it was a purposeful hunt.
