Snapped a pic of my current progress with my cellphone, since I don't want to un-tape the paper until I'm done. @_@ This is... turning out better than I'd expected, but definitely not finished yet. I'm thinking acrylics was the right choice, though. I can layer colors! Eeeeee! My half of a trade with
wielder, in progress. Background is referenced from a SW Ep II movie still, and I lay no claims on it whatsoever.

Zanny belongs to me
Puppeh Obiwanz technically belongs to The Great Beard, but Wielder has first dibs. XDD

Oils are forgiving in the sense that they take a long time to dry, and it's easy to wipe up your mistakes, or paint over them and start over. Acrylics have a much faster drying time, and their own learning curve, but thinned down, they behave a lot like watercolors, except that I can do layers of transparent washes without disturbing the earlier paints.
Yup! Though there's definitely a learning curve. I had a hard time with them at first when I switched over from oils because I was used to having more time to manipulate things. But treating them like watercolor works exceptionally well with decent paints. Not sure how well the cheaper ones would hold up to this kind of treatment. The student grade I'm using are working beautifully, though. =D
Yeah, these are Liquitex BASICS, which is their student grade acrylic. It's not quite as nice as their pro grade, but it's decent. Way better than the Reeves stuff, or craft paint, which should only be used for crafts. c.c; The pigment vs. binder ratio on craft paint is just terrible for fine art projects.
*blinks in awe* ZOMG, girl, the colors! The colors and lighting are just amazing! Your handling of acrylic washes is just phenomenal! I know it's hard to get that sort of watercolor look with them, so I give you mad props for your skills! The environment is looking amazing, and I hate you for your awesome understanding of perspective. Perspective and I are not friends, but are MORTAL enemies *hissssss*.
God, I can't wait to see this finished! I thank you profoundly for all your hard work. I swear that as soon as I get this one, it's going in a mat and frame, and it's going on the wall! I didn't think it could get more adorable than it already was, but here you go proving me wrong lol!
Thanks so very very much!

Ha, I can only do perspective with a reference, but thanks anyway. =D I've been taking my time and building up layers with this one, and it's WORKING @_@ God, I wish everything I did turned out this well. It's been a huge challenge and an absolute delight to work on, and I pray my scanner is gentle to it when I finish. If not, maybe I can convince my husband to photograph it for me, since the camera sometimes gets better lighting and detail. I should be finishing up tonight or tomorrow, though. I can't wait to have it done for you!
