In his defence, as far as he knows, Amanda Arranoc IS the only heir to the Arranoc throne. Also, please remember that Bowen briefly served under Amanda before his exile. I had planned on in a future flashback, Bowen asking Amanda just that, if she was an only child. To which she would say yes.
