just testing something out, a guide i picked up said that to make the main guns more realistic to put them at diffrent elevations, how does it look?

im not shure which one your talking about, but i know there was a few, the one im mostly thinking of is making the ship look shorter then it actually is, so it looks like a prinz eugene class cruiser rather then a big ass battleship, the other is a bunch of black and white stripes, though i think that ones american.....ok im confusing myself, please im willing to listen if your willing to explain
*giggles an smiles* you were pretty much correct in a way on the first one making the ship appear smaller. but it wasn't done to make people mistake one ship for another. what the Germans did was basically paint the skyline on each end of the boat a little bit towards the centre but not to much. the effect of doing this was because 9/10 times people would spot the other using Binoculars it would create an optical illusion to that spotter. making the spotter give the wrong distance coordinates to the rest of the crew so if the Allies gunners fired first they would over shoot the target, or as it more often the case the crew would react to the coordinates by driving closer to the German ship thinking it was out of gun range when in fact it wasn't and would no doubt very soon begin to shoot at the Allies.
as i said :) somewhat of a genius idea.

i only really know about this because a friend went to a painting contest for WW2 stuff with some WW2 vets as the judges. he one first place because of him painting the boat with that camo on it and one of the judges happened to be a Canadian navy survivor who fought against a boat using that camo design on it. and your more then welcome for the info glad i can help i suppose but hey i wish you luck with the project.
I'd have the guns at different elevations, but maybe not so dramatic of them. You know the Prinz Eugen? I've actually stood on her. She is sunk in Kwajalein lagoon with her props sticking out and I've stood on her hull.
And here she is.
