Natallie is a childhood friend of Carol that goes to another University that specializes in having their students control their magic and use it for everyday life. She always had trouble controlling her magic and wanted to go to a school that would help her with that, as appose to the school Carol goes to that teaches their students to use their magic to fight Devi Curses and teaches them to become powerful mages and protect people from different universes that don't have magic of any kind. Natallie and Carol always hanged out all the time from 2nd grade all the way to junior high, it was in the 8th grade when Natallie realized she didn't have any interest in being a mage, and chose to not follow Carol's path of the mage. Carol respected that and decided to let her best friend walk her path. And from their on they went to different High Schools and Colleges and haven't seen each other since. Natallie doesn't see Carol again until Tyler arrives to their world, that was when the girls reunited after 4 long years.
