If I'm gonna be perfectly honest, I absolutely despise Buddy Rich....

His methods were completely unorthodox, bordeline cocky and his attitude towards his fellow musicians was unacceptable and he was a complete tyrant. He is everything I do NOT want to be as a drummer. So please don't suggest anything by him. Other versions of songs he's played from other musicians are fine but absolutely NOTHING by him.

I understand, and I apologize. Rich was the worst role model even if he was among the best drummers.

Which jazz drummer should I have picked instead? (In other words, which one is your favorite?)

I don't really have a favorite per se. But I do follow a YT channel called "TheCrippledDrummer"
and he has a huge collection of jazz and big band tunes with drummers I haven't even heard of.
There are the classics like Art Blakey, Max Roach, Louie Bellson, Philly Joe Jones, and many others.
