As of last week, after a harsh and scary few years, I'm finally official a Canadian citizen. Whew!!
The process was definitely long, expensive and exhausting, and there were moments were I felt like I'd never see the end of it.
I consider Canada my true home, and I'm beyond happy to know that I'll be officially spending the rest of my life here!
By the way, did you know that the genocide and cultural oppression of First Nation peoples was the foundation of this country and has YET to stop? That's a fucking bummer. I now live on stolen land, so I'll be donating to the Indigenous-led charity Legacy of Hope this month and in the future, and I hope you'll consider doing the same if you live in North America.

Congratulations on getting your citizenship and welcome to the commonwealth of which I am also a member. Here in New Zealand the Maori people face the same troubles, England colonized and war was fought, land stolen... Even our treaty had different versions and translations. We established a treaty tribunal in 1975 and we're still settling disputes. It's something we are mindful of in every day life, it's not something the individual can have a huge impact on, but that's very kind of you to donate ^-^.
Always happy to hear another person speaking up about Indigenous struggles, aye. And I'm glad you finally got through the hurdles of citizenship there. Bvlbancha Liberation Radio is a good resource I've found for learning about Indigenous struggles down south where my own heart lays in Louisiana/Bvlbancha!
