Ah... but if you went back in time and changed what was then that means everything from that point on now becomes what is and what was becomes what wasn't so, in a sense you changed nothing as far as everything else knows since what was becomes the thing that didn't happen... unless you go back and change it again... but then you'd still have what you have and no memory of what wasn't... which never was.
Theo-Wizzago --yes.
This is why they use the neural bufferer. They can compare what was to what they're trying to do. Fred (and to a lesser extent, Leo and Fisi) would be the only people to remember the other timeline. And Fred's memories are being overwritten by the things his past self is doing, which is why it's dangerous to tinker in your own timeline.
They're existing in a pocket of temporal grace. If their "fix" works, when they return to their reality, they will only remember the new reality.

Can't help it but this reminded me of an old joke.
[ One day, while out for a drive, a lady came upon a young man and his car... which had stopped after he had accidentally hit a rabbit in the road. Being a conscientious person, he was more than a little upset. After she got out of her can and spoke with him a bit, she said "I have just the thing!" and returned to her car to fetch something. Confused the man watched as she returned with an aerosol can and sprayed the dead rabbit with it's contents. After a bit the rabbit twitched, hopped up, and started down the road... stopping every 5 feet or so to turn around and wave a paw at the people.
"Amazing! What is that stuff?" asked the young man.
"Hair Spray. Adds a permanent wave too!" ]
On a more serious note, I know this is an online world much more than when I grew up but... you have enough material to do a graphic novel is you so chose to do. Have you thought about it?

I have been wanting to publish hardcopy comic books for a while, but have not actively sought a means of publication. Money is also an object.
The three-strip-per-page format I post here was started for Webtoons, and with an eye toward binding the pages into a book. But I'm up to 880 pages, which would make eight 100-page (50 leaf) books. Not un-do-able, but up there in Girl Genius territory.
Technically, the pages here are a graphic novel, as compared to the newspaper lay-out of the main web site.
I think that's what you were asking?
Incidentally, that thing on Fred's head is a perm machine from the 1940's.
