“While Dermond would rather forget his party’s encounter and battle against Cerberus even if they ended victorious over the voracious creature as it led him to the literal belly of the beast at least it served him to become aware of the existence of the ‘Mini’ spell that he thought it’d be useful to learn and add to his repertoire of White Magic.
And while many years have passed since he left behind the orphanage in which he grew up, ‘Dennis the Menace’ was still alive and well in Dermond as his inner child and this idea: to cast ‘Mini’ on Alfons and Master Karl as test subjects for the White Mage’s recently learned new spell.
In Dermond’s defence he’d initially brushed the idea off as he was immensely reluctant to pull any sort of prank on his dear brother in arms and while Master Karl put him through hell each time they held a training session he’d eventually grown fond of him as well, if anything for Alfons’ sake.
However, when Master Karl announced they would hold a session in the training grounds of the inn room they made a stop on that day and suggested it would be a particularly exhausting one Dermond threw away any hesitation he still held and most probably his common sense as well and cast ‘Mini’ on the two Knights Dragoon who accompanied him.
It backfired.
Not only Dermond had missed Alfons and Master Karl when he cast ‘Mini’ but he was the one who ended up with his height reduced due to the miscast spell. The White Mage internally kicked himself for the miscast spell and to have his height halved when he was already of very short stature only added insult to the injury so to speak. The only consolation he had at that moment is that it could have been worse and wasn’t reduced to the size of an apple when it was cast by Cerberus.
And as one could guess neither Knight Dragoon were any impressed by the White Mage’s miscast spell. But while Alfons found a certain degree of amusement in Dermond’s predicament, Master Karl wasn’t as lenient. Not so much because the White Mage had attempted to cast ‘Mini’ on them but rather that he wouldn’t allow Dermond to weasel out of today’s training session, which he simply wouldn’t allow.
And as soon Dermond found out while his stature may have been reduced by half the effort in turn he would have to put double the effort in today’s training session and he better not even think to for a single moment to laze lest Master Karl plant his foot on the White Mage in order to ‘motivate’ him…”
