I blew today on installing an air conditioner for my room. I can't believe I paid $17 for a thin sheet of plywood! Much duct tape was involved. Maybe I should send a photo to thereIfixedit.com. But clumsy as it looks, it works. I was not doing so good, working at home during the last few hot days. My room's basically a tin box. With plenty windows, so the inside heats up as soon as the sun rises.
The photo is of my bed as work was progressing - I had to take down my desk-shelf, because it was blocking the air-conditioner. Damn, I accumulate a lot of crap...

Ply is expensive.. But some self drilling screws, scrabs of timber, a bracket or two and a tube of gap filler makes for a neat instaltion. Hopefully you used at least 10mm, can rattle otherwise. The one I installed upstairs I put a fat bead of acrylic filler around the edges to keep ratteling under control and about 20 screws strait through the ply and into the aluminum frame. Two coats of paint to match the house, some PVC to drain away the water and it actually looks like it's ment to be there!
