"Chains are what defines me," Chomby said to himself. He scribbled a few lines into his notebook and took a deep breath. He knew this was just supposed to be lyrics to his next song, but he felt there was a bit of truth to it. He wondered if he could pick Sarge's brain for this. "Whatcha think?" He gently tapped his headphones.
Chomby could sense Sarge was hesitating to answer. Either that, or he was thinking of how to answer.
"It isn't too dreary, is it?" Chomby asked.
"No, no, it isn't. Just wondering. Is this because you don't have a body of your own and are stuck with me?" Sarge asked.
"Maybe? It's not the fact I'm stuck with you, it's that I'm stuck." Chomby scratched his head and closed his notebook. "I don't really have much freedom."
"I know," Sarge said quietly. "I'm sorry. The offer is still there if you really did want to stay zipped up permanently. I feel you've more than earned it."
"Earned it?" Chomby narrowed his eyes. "Color me confused. Why did I have to earn the freedom to be myself permanently?"
"Wrong use of words. I meant that I'd want you to be happy, and would like for you to have the freedom you've been wanting." Sarge was picking his words carefully. Chomby recognized this. "I've really been running into wall after wall trying to figure out how you came into existence. So, if I can't really find that out, there's gotta be another way I can repay you."
"You don't have to repay me for anything," Chomby bit the back of his pencil and grimaced. "But I can't help but wonder if constantly letting me be in control is okay for you or not. It's your body, Sarge. I feel more people would've thrown the jacket away by this point."
"Eh, I don't mind at all." Sarge chuckled. "To me, it's a relationship of friends. I give you my time, you give me yours."
Chomby closed his eyes and sighed. As much as he loved Sarge, he knew that his feelings were still feeling more dower than he wanted. "Are you upset that I still feel chained down?"
"If you're trying to see how I feel about this, Chomby, I'm upset that you feel chained down. Not because I find it annoying or frustrating or even disconcerting. It upsets me because I can understand why that feeling is there, but I don't have a way to remove it for you... outside of, y'know, letting you take control."
"And thus the chains are there." Chomby chuckled. "Because I don't want you to be gone.... I'd be scared to wake up one day and find you're no longer around. You're kinda my safety net."
"A safety net made of chains?"
"No. The situation we're in makes me feel chained, but you're that suspended net above the ground who catches me when I feel I'm gonna spiral." Chomby scratched his head again. "Sorry, I'm probably muddying the metaphor. Whole thing started by just wanting to figure out more song lyrics."
"I get that. I think of you as my safety net, too. Not many people can have a friend who's literally sharing the same body."
"And you're the only person I know who's fine with that. You're one weird guy," Chomby teased.
"Takes one to know one, you goofball."
Chomby rolled his eyes and chuckled. He then thought on what Sarge said and immediately opened the notebook again. "A safety net made of chains? You okay if I put that into the song?"

I'd classify this as "weird banter/dialogue" between Sarge and Chomby. The song involved with this picture is a bit more about feeling someone's life is being controlled by whomever is holding the chains. I then thought about how I'd translate that to Sarge and Chomby, but then realized that the two wouldn't really see themselves as being chained by the other. So, this is where my mind wandered. Huh.
Also, I absolutely love the composition on this piece. I'm proud of how I drew it and really love the angling involved. :D
ANYWAY, here's the song! Go ahead and take a listen. <3 https://youtu.be/MtTSJbaM9nU

There is one question that has always been on my mind.
What would happen if you put Chomby on say, a mannequin, then zipped him up. Would nothing happen as it's not a living being? I guess there is no restrictions on who can put Chomby on as well? (Seeing how he names that others would have thrown the jacket away)

So long as it is a living hominid creature, it will work. They basically need to have "similar" bone structures to a soundbyte (which, in this case just means a hominid of any sort).
Though it'd be funny/cute if putting the jacket on a mannequin turned Chomby into one. Hmmmmm.

I was curious about
Championer 's question as well! Auggy is only somewhat similar, but managed to have a body of its own through a robot- however it does seem specifically designed for it to work with, so a mannequin wouldn't work for Auggy either. xD
ANYHOW before I get too dorky talking about my own ocs on your post, erhem!
The composition and the video itself are so well done! It's quite powerful visually. I also like reading these back n forth's between chomby n Sarge for these posts. Almost feels like a Visual Novel game scenario before the big event(the performance)
