I originally thought of this Emmet design as belonging to his future self, some years after Sully struck out on his own. So if Sully is responsible for this reaction, it's because he stopped by the Burrow to catch up with his old mentor and brought something weird with him. (I've had that prompt idea sitting around for a while.)
