I have been reminded by psuedonymjones that it is indeed Make A Terrible Comic Day, so here's a comic about what just came to my mind this morning.
Remember! Anyone can make a comic! Creativity is limitless when we remove our own self-limiting beliefs of what art "should" be!
Here is the transcribed text for those who can't read my handwriting:
Panel 1: My bespectacled birdsona, head in hands staring blankly with a frown.
Text: When you've been unemployed for...a while, it's hard to answer a seemingly basic question like
speech bubble: How are you?
Panel 2: my birdsona standing with one hand behind her back and one at her chin pensively, looking anxious.
my birdsona (thinking): Err...that's a loaded question these days...what should I say??
Panel 4: a big panel made of smaller panels within a thought bubble
Panel 4a: My birdsona looking cheerful
my birdsona: Good!
text in an arrow-shaped speech bubble pointing at my head: A lie.
Panel 4b: My birdsona signing with a clawed hand raised.
My birdsona: Oh! You know!
arrow bubble: Leaving it open to the imagination, assuming everyone is also "going through it"
Panel 4c: My birdsona shrugging
birdsona: Eh...
arrow bubble: non-commital shrug, I'm tired
Panel 4d: My birdsona with hands out and sweating
birdsona: *image of a loading wheel icon*
arrow bubble: Taking too long to figure out the best way to snowier this question, so people just assume things aren’t going well, which to be fair they aren’t
Panel 4e: My birdsona looking cheerful
birdsona: Good! I went to the LA Zine Fest yesterday and had a great time!
arrow bubble: Focus on the positive, talk about something that ISN’T work/job related. This is maybe most ideal, but it’s hard not to automatically focus on job stuff. But remember we are not capitalism robots.
Panel 5
My birdsona, sighing and sweating, dabbing at the sweat with a napkin/towel.
birdsona: At the end of the day, I try to keep in mind to not assume “how are you” is specifically job related. Or at least I feel it shouldn’t be.
Of course the “real ones” I know I can just be honest with. But with ppl I don’t see as much it’s like uh shoot what do I say??
So uh, talk about things besides jobs pls + thank you!
