Inspired by pictures of neopaganism and concert visits of the band Heilung, I've been carrying around the idea of putting my Friesian stallion character Steppenfire in the style of Nordic shamans with ritual accessories for a while.
Some modern fly headbands on horses are somewhat reminiscent of shamanic headdresses, where the ribbons cover the 'seer's' face, giving him/her an unapproachable, mystical aura.
When Rigardatta offered a commission in the appropriate setting, I had to go for it and I love the details that have been incorporated into the body accessories here.
In many neo-pagan traditions, horses are considered companions on spiritual journeys.
They symbolise the ability to travel between worlds, be it between the earthly and the spiritual or between different stages of life and transformation.
