interesting piece! I like that the darkness has a texture and has diferent greys in it, making someone just imagine what lurks beyond! The boat driver itself has their own unique touch of lovecraftian horror but still keeping its traditional role of bringing the lights (souls?) over to the other side. The dead in the watter giving up their soul such a nice touch, love it when a picture tells astory you have to add the pieces together C:

Thank you for your comment! It's nice to see someone who looks closely and understands the intent behind this work. And yes, the lights are supposed to be fireflies, representing the souls of the dead. They are attracted to the light of the lantern that is hanging on ferryman's scythe, allowing them to safely guide souls to the afterlife.
