James and Matt had made an incredibly dumb decision today. They had made the decision to go into an abandoned air base and see if there was anything interesting in there. Supposedly it had been a hub for war and cargo planes back in the day, though what specific war it was from was never stated.
“…Matt, did we ever find out what war this place was built in?” James said as he and Matt finished scaling the fence. Thankfully, the barbed wire had dulled over time, allowing them to simply remove it.
Matt dropped to the ground and let out a quiet ‘hmm’.
“I don’t think we did, actually.” Matt shrugged.
“Yeah…now that I think about it, did we get a solid answer out of ANYONE we asked about this place?” James questioned as the two of them began to approach the one of the many hangars dotted about the place.
“Shit, man. I don’t think we did. Everyone just kinda dodged the question or didn’t know anything about it.” Matt said in disbelief.
“Fuck man…this place must’ve had something horrible happen if NOBODY is willing to speak up about it.” James added.
Matt was about to open the door to the hangar, but then stopped and took a deep breath and looked over to James.
“In that case, should we just get out of here?” He asked.
James looked to the side briefly as he pondered the question, then looked back at Matt. “Nah, we might be able to find some material to send into like a horror story podcast.” He declared.
Matt snickered and shook his head. “You are something else, man.” He teased before opening the door and stepping in.
The two were immediately met with something amazing; right in the center of the hangar was a fully-fledged fighter jet!
Matt and James both marveled at the old aircraft, making varying sounds of excitement and awe upon seeing it.
“Holy shit, this thing must be like a hundred years old!” Matt called out.
“Sure seems like it.” James responded. He trailed his finger along the side of the plane, scooping up a thick layer of dust in the process.
“Shit…do you think it can even fly anymore?” Matt asked, stepping around to examine the plane’s propeller.
“I don’t even know…looks like it hasn’t been used in forever.” As James spoke, his eyes were drawn to something that was hanging off the door to the jet.
A pilot’s helmet, and oddly enough, it was completely clean…
And Matt would find something that was equally as out of place in terms of cleanliness; a wrench.
“Hey dude, check this out!” Both boys said in unison as they grabbed their respective items and brought them over to each other.
“Damn, you found something, too?” Matt asked, absentmindedly fiddling with the wrench.
“Yeah…it’s like…brand new.” James mused, holding the helmet up to his eyes…it was so odd, how were both of these items completely spotless and new when their surroundings were so dusty and old?
“…Looks like it might fit me.” James suddenly spouted, feeling an equally as sudden feeling of familiarity with the helmet.
And coincidentally, Matt was also beginning to feel some sort of nostalgic attachment to the wrench, like he had used it many times before in a past life or something like that…He pondered the thought while deeply examining the wrench from every angle.
“…I’m gonna try it on.” James declared as he slid the helmet onto his head.
Matt was snapped out of his introspection upon seeing this. “Uhhhh, dude, are you sure that’s a safe idea?” He asked concernedly.
“C’mon, man! It’s just a helmet! What could go wro-“ Before James could finish speaking, his body suddenly tensed up.
Matt’s eyes widened and he gripped the wrench tighter. At this moment, his arms also began to feel warmer but he wouldn’t notice that for now.
“Uh- J-James?” Matt asked, concern heavy in his voice.
“I feel…I…” James’ mind felt like it was drenched in fog. He stumbled back a bit and then fell on the ground. As this was happening, bright blue feathers began to grow out from his skin, turning white around his face, and his nose and jaws hardened into tough, black bone, and stretched out into a large beak.
Matt watched in horror as this happened. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do, nor say. Thankfully, he wouldn’t have to worry about thinking about it, as his mind would start to fog up as well. Matt groaned and held his head as he backed up against the plane. His arms would soon be subsumed by a thick plumage of pink feathers. As his hands were swallowed by the feathers, his fingers flattened out and stretched into long feather-fingers. Matt unfortunately dropped the wrench at this point.
Meanwhile, James’ mind began to defog somewhat…but his memories were different somehow…He didn’t remember being a human his whole life, instead, he remembered himself as a blue jay?
“H-Huh? That’s not right…I…” James clicked his beak several times as more feathers grew all over his body. His arms would soon be turned into wings similar to Matt’s, however, these were different. They were somewhat sleeker and more compact, plus they were blue with white edges instead of the stark pinkness of Matt.
Matt’s memories were being altered as well. He remembered being a flamingo instead of a human, and along with that, he remembered not even being a ‘he’ at all. Matt held his head tighter as he tried his hardest to fight against his changing memory and body. It would be in vain though, and the pink plumage worked its way up his neck and head, and once his head was fully feathered, he began to grow a beak as well. A much larger and longer one that also curved at the end.
“J-James…! What’s going on…?!” Matt cried out. And as he did so, he noticed that his voice had obtained a new higher pitch.
“Urrrgh…I don’t know, Minnie.” James’ blood ran cold as the name flew out of his beak. That…WAS her name, right? And…she…she was a girl, right?
“Minnie? Th-That’s…That’s not…” As ‘Matt’ sputtered, their chest was overcome with a heavy feeling as their pectoral muscles bulged and swelled, forming a pair of modest breasts. Minnie looked down at them, feeling a sense of relief. She also felt her manhood retract back into body and vanish entirely, bringing even more relief.
As for James, his body began to slim out, and he shrunk down in height a few inches. James let out a contented tweet as he ran his wing across his now lean, yet tough physique. He then felt his feet and legs beginning to itch and burn. James grunted and lifted his pants up, watching as the skin on his legs turned grey and dried out. Inside his shoes, James could feel his socks tearing apart as toes began to push against the shoes themselves. The ex-human managed to kick his shoes off before they were destroyed, and he then saw his new talons, and set them down slowly on the dusty concrete floor.
Minnie’s body began to grow in terms of height and muscle. Her torso pressed uncomfortably against her shirt, while her pant legs began to rise up, revealing her now smooth, pink legs. Minnie’s shoes would be torn apart soon after, revealing her webbed feet. This was quickly followed by her shirt exploding off of her body, leaving her with just her pants.
But it wasn’t over quite yet, as both birds now felt new, larger feathers blossoming out of their rears, and causing bulges to build up in the backs of their pants, before finally, their new tail feathers burst out, capping off their physical transformations.
Their mental ones however were far from over. Their memories were slowly but surely being altered. Memories of them meeting each other in high school became memories of meeting in flight academy, they lost knowledge of their current jobs in favor of new ones; James being a fighter jet pilot and Minnie being a professional mechanic respectively. Their current clothes began to tear themselves away from their bodies to make room for new outfits that magically placed themselves onto them. James gained a new airman outfit, complete with a badge and scarf, while Minnie was now dressed in a rugged mechanic’s uniform.
And finally, with a metaphorical ‘SNAP’, it was done, and the two birds held their heads and groaned, looking around at the bustling hangar, filled with other people (all of which were anthropomorphic animals) and planes raring to take flight.
“Shit, Minnie, what happened?” James asked, rubbing his aching head.
“Must’ve been some jetlag…” Minnie groaned.
It wouldn’t take long for the two of them to shake it off, and they looked at each other with smiles across their beaks.
“Well, it was another great flight!” Minnie cheered.
“All thanks to the greatest mechanic this side of the Mississippi!” James cheered back. “Without you, I doubt my plane would fly even half as smooth.”
“Ah hush.” Minnie chuckled, giving the smaller bird a light noogie.
James chuckled back and straightened out his pilot helmet.
“Well, I gotta get going. Need to turn in that report.” James said.
“Alright, see you later, pal.” Minnie responded, waving James goodbye as he walked out of the hangar.
Minnie then picked up her wrench. “Huh…don’t remember dropping this…” She shrugged, figuring it wasn’t that important, then went to walk around the hangar to see if anyone else had any maintenance issues.
