This isn't so much about the image itself, but rather the game it's from. I'm making this laser puzzle game where... well, you have to direct a lazer into a target with mirrors, prisms, filters, etc.
I didn't realize there were so many games of this type, so I guess I'll have to try to excell by quality. :P
Right now it only has 4 levels, and only the most basic components implemented, but it'll get there.
I created pretty much all of it myself, programming, graphics, sound, music.
The only thing not from my own hand is some middleware used, but with proper licenses.
If you want to take a look at it, you can download the early version here:
http://www.artonis.com/temp/lazerworld0.85.zip
Feel free to report any bugs and make suggestions, also tell me how fast it runs on your computer's specs.
Oh yeah, probably should say something about controls. :P
Left Click - Select and place parts
Middle Click - Scroll view
Right Click - Remove parts
I know that there is a bug at the end of the 4 levels, on the game complete screen with some ugly slowdown and sound bugs. Couldn't yet figure out what happened there. XD

O: I haven't known you are a games programmer...
That's my dream/hobby as well :)
Your game is nice for it's state, though, I wonder, can't you get the current setting of the users screen and just use that?
Ive noted only two little bugs besides what you said:
The windowed mode isn't actually in a window (on my widescreen with WinXP at least). It seems just to stick the game at an odd size on the left
upper side...
When kliicking on the next level check, it always sets a tile in the next level...
Two suggestions:
When the constellation of the pieces is right, the lazer should blink a few times or so, not just skip to the next level.
The field moving should better not be managed by the middle mouse button, it moves oddly and on bigger screens far too fast... just let the screen scroll when the mouse hits the side or so, and let it stop when it hit's the border...
That was it, hope it helps a little... in every case you should add some more items and maybe also some traps in the game... or make a time challenge...
Would be curious in what language or with which programm you do this :3

Hey, not bad. ^_^ Coded with blitz?
My only real gripes have to do with scrolling. Tried playing this without looking at controls, and middle-click is rather... counter-intuitive. Why not the arrow keys? Also, the playing field appears infinite -- might wanna put boundaries on it. I scrolled off to check for that and... umm... literally lost the level (as in couldn't find it again. ;p )

Fair, I was unable to tell what method you were using to draw the laser. My project (must have been almost a decade ago now) I didn't know how to just "draw" a line, so I was using a tile system.
It worked flawlessly, except for the cross-over flicker (and only the one tile flickered, in the underlying mechanics it was perfect, the tile was accepting both inputs and supplying both outputs simultaneously, it just wasn't displaying it properly).

BlitzMax, a sort of object oriented basic. Not hardcore coder, I am afraid. :P

Ok, i tried it (twice :P ) and here is my comment (i just need to add that i know nothing about engine of this game and its limitations, so ignore my ideas if they are not possible to implement )
Video settings:
It's a bit strange that i have to move the slider to select "screen mode" instead of clicking, but the slider works great for selecting resolution.
I have no idea what "Delta timing" is.
Sounds:
Music is OK, reminds me "Ufo:ET" game :-P, laser sound is also good, just a bit too loud.
I guess you will add audio options in later versions.
Gameplay:
- first of all, scrolling works totally crazy but i guess you know about it.
- Placing/removing mirrors works good and it actually gives a lot of fun.
- I just don't know what is the function of different wall types, probably only to look nice, but maybe you will add more types of walls later.
- I think that "level complete" window should appear above the level, so i will still be able to see it (or it should appear with delay, after some animation)
- I don't know how complicated the game engine is, but you can think about adding walls that can be destroyed by laser, or "sensors" that will open some door when hit by laser beam (to get access to the "final sensor" or how it's called). Also you can add tiles that are transparent for laser, but you can't put mirror on them.
- you can think about more optic parts, for example something that will spit laser into two beams to hit 2 targets and things like that.
- You are right, at the end of level 4 i have big lag and hear something that sounds like tractor engine starting up
Anyway, game is really nice and i would like to see more levels, so i hope you will continue developing it.
My PC specs: AMD Phenom II X4 955, running at 3,7GHz, Windows 7 64-bit, 8GB Ram. Game works smooth (until that tractor :-P )
