Originally written in 1931 by John Klenner, Just Friends became a jazz standard that has been covered by everyone from Sinatra to Dizzy to Yardbird. This snappy arrangement features the trombone section, with both soli sections and improv solos for all.
This recording was from a recent fundraiser dance that we did to support a local school band program (hence the chatter in the background). I'm solo #2 (starting 2:33) - improv isn't my strong suit, but I was able to write it out which worked out quite well (plus, I was able to fit in nods to If I Only Had a Brain and Salt Peanuts). Definitely one of my favorite groups to play with.
