My attempt at this week's Thursday Prompt. This week, the word for the prompt was 'illiterate'.
Per normal, please be sure to check
ThursdayPrompt for more.
I had three different ideas for this and had planned to act on all three of them, but this is already super long as is so I've only got the two.
Attempt #1 - a non-canon submission for
's collaborative anthology project set long before the actual events of the anthology. Thanks again for letting me do this up, Lu. Anthology can be found here:
.
Attempt #2 - probably fits the prompt a bit better though I'm hoping the ending is a bit more straightforward than I think it might be reading it back to myself now.
Not featured because I didn't do it attempt #3 - was going to be my alchemist character attempting to play the harp in memory of his deceased wife but he can't read sheet music. Eh, I've done enough for him anyways.

I'm grateful to hear you thought they both came out well enough. I probably could have stood to put a bit more time and effort into the first, if I'm honest. I kept hitting walls with it that made me wonder if I was even integrating the prompt right.
Thank you much for reading over these, very grateful for that.

To be honest, the idea really only struck me as I started making O-13E talk. For whatever reason, I just kept seeing O-BE as I continued building this out and went to the cute angle.
That sounds like an interesting opportunity, whether asked by the publishers or the AI itself. If you don't mind and have the time, do you know what it was that you would have been doing to help train the AI? What exactly would be training the AI to do, if you are allowed to share and don't mind?

I'm glad to hear that the first one came out good enough; I got about half-way through and was wondering if I was even making enough sense for it to be a coherent story! Subtlety isn't really my strength, but I am grateful you'd say you were still intrigued enough to read over it.
Thank you much for having looked over these, I'm grateful you'd do that.

Prahjeckt Oh Bee! That was really creative and fun. And veeryy cute.
Fun to see something within the exelverse too. I think it would be fun to teach AI like that. Honestly maybe he could turn that AI into Prahjeckt Oh Bee lol? Then it would be a very adorable AI and even more fun to teach. And to pet and teach it to react to pets. :3
Both of these worked well with the prompt definitely too.

I think O-13E might be trying to say something, but I'm not too sure yet...
I'm glad to hear you thought the exelverse one went over well enough, too. Not too interested in AI technology myself, I do think if I actually had the opportunity to work up close with then it could be quite exciting; having the opportunity to 'teach' AI would be an interesting prospect. But to turn the AI into a talking, fox kit-like creature would be simply exhilarating!
...
You're still on the whole 'pet' craze from the stream, aren't you?

The first story was neat but the second is awesome, I want an O-13E of my own! Might have to order one with actual fox tails though. Seriously one question, you kept referring to O-13E as an it, if it is a genetically created creature did they make it without sex, because that would be a good way to make sure they don't make more of themselves, if they create more than one, but they're also apparently intelligent so might be a bit miffed to find out they were designed that way.
I'm grateful to hear that you thought they both came out well enough and I'm thrilled to hear you liked O-13E (I was having a bit of fun picturing something a bit more than your standard fox... or anything, really).
I hadn't really given O-13E's gender much thought throughout the story. In my head, they're still learning about O-13E and it is the only known sort-of-vulpine in existence, but that was honestly about as far as I had gone when drafting this. I do kind of have an idea on how to continue this and your thoughts on how O-13E is a genetically engineered creation without a sex is a great explanation for why O-13E is referred to as 'it' instead of a gendered pronoun. Thanks for the bit of world building there!
I very much appreciate that you'd look over these both, always grateful for that.
