This is merely a rough practice trying my hand at realism (or semi-realism) once more trying to render out fur and reflective surfaces. Please crit!

I'm not sure what kind of tutorial you've used, I think the results are quite good especially in the coat of arms. I sincerely encourage you to try, before you try to paint something realistic, to draw something realistic. Study a little anatomy and body shape. It's easier to cover with fur something with a well defined volume.
I see some interesting textures on your picture, like the fur on the arms and the wrinkles on the pants. However they´re just that, textures. They´re nothing unless you can create something solid, and that means that you need to work on basic shapes and human/animal anatomy before trying to work on texture. It´s like trying to write a story without knowing the alphabet.
But don´t feel discouraged about our commentaries, or that we´re trying to rip your efforts, in the end what really matters is the road you have to walk in order to reach your final goal.

No problem. I'm not one to get discouraged so easily like a lot of furry artists I've met. And I know this isnt really something to consider as a finished piece. This was merely practice with photoshop painting techniques I've gathered together from books, websites, and DVDs. And for a long time I havent been doing that and I felt rusty. So after doing this i realize my potential.
And I really REALLY appreciate it that you are commenting and critiquing my piece of art here. I wish more people would actually do that and stop it with the "AWESOME WORK" and the "GOOD JOB" stuff i see around here. Thank you so much it really means a lot to me.

I'll start from the head down.
I like how you challenged yourself with how the fingers are grasping the hair and such, it came out pretty smooth, and I think would be acceptable in a realism piece, the face and head are well rendered as well, the neck how ever feels a bit long, although the head is tilted to the side I can help but wonder how perspective is being played in the piece, but when I look at it as a hole I can see faint traces of two point perspective that make it seem rational, the point of perspective following the tilt of the head and the point of the perspective following the body to the feet off the page, the shoulders and arms are super well done! I really can't get over the subtleties of the muscles under the fur and how those stripes really help to emphasize the volume of the form, the stomach area how ever looks a little flat, there is much less contrast in the lights and darks and the lines that define the subtle details look very close to the same thickness, from there on down everything feels well shaded and thought out, good job on this one!
