Lust had finished the preparations for the summoning ritual. She closed her eyes and chanted a spell out loud, firing it forward at a wall. A dark splotch of shadow formed and grew before a cloaked figure stepped out of it.
“Where…am I?” The cloaked figure asked, turning to Lust, “Who are you?”
Lust could feel immense power radiating off him, though it was suppressed. “I am Lust.” She told him.
“Why did you rip me out of my shadow warp?”
I sensed…your sorrow and rage screaming throughout time and space…I hadn’t felt anything like it prior.”
“I’m fine.” He said in an angered tone, “Now let me go.”
“But you’re not fine! I know you’re not fine! I wouldn’t have done all this if you were fine!”
“Why do you even care if I’m fine or not?!”
“Because I know what it’s like to feel so- so broken! So alone…I wish someone had been there for me when I was in pain. I wish I had a friend.”
“And what? You wish to be my friend?”
All Lust could do was nod.
The man seemed taken aback by how upfront she was. And yet…he knew she was genuine. There was no ulterior motive behind her words, no hint of deceit. Her eyes were pure with truth, and her voice was steady with honesty. He couldn’t deny it. She really did care for him.
And as a result, he found himself caring for her. Even though they had just met…he had found a friend.
He pulled his hood back, revealing his face to Lust with a small smile, “My name is Maytem…” After a pause, he continued, “I would like to be your friend.”
Lust smiled and nodded, “It’s lovely to meet you, Maytem.”
“Likewise, Lust.” He responded.
“Well, I do apologize for all this suddenness; why don’t we go out for a happy hour and get to know each other better? It’s my treat.”
“I would like that very much,” Maytem said, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome!”
And so, the two found themselves enjoying a delightful day out, drinking tea over a conversation about their lives and escapades. Both of them had found a friendship in each other, one that would last a lifetime.
