Jsut a quick follow-up. Im a little disappointed in myself that I made the females tall and slender and the males short and stout, that's such an outdated chliche, but meh, I can smash gender stereotypes when I am not aping old school 50s/60s comic book alien design...
Worldbuilding, long-winded, no necessery to read:
Keep in mind that the distinction between "alpha-males" and "beta-males" in Nostovian biology has nothing to do with leadership, it has nothing to do with the alpha-males of wolves. In fact, 63% of Nostovian tribes are matriarchal (or "beta-male-iarchal" in a few high-profile cases), since due to frequent in-fighting, alpha-male leaders tend not to last very long as leaders, unless they are exceptionally stubborn.
It's also worth noting that both this image and the previous one is just samples. This green is by far the most common skincolor, but everything in the green spectrum as well as some cases of purple skin pops up.
Purple skin is usually a symptom of a condition that deforms the blood-cells, which gives them less of an ability to synthesize sugars. This gives rise to the Nostovian idiom "purple-blooded", meaning someone who has a lot of energy, but tire easily.
Females may develop a secondary pair of antennas as they age, a feature that's regarded as unattractive but also as a status symbol. Different degrees of piebaldism pop up from time to time. Symmetrical patterns are considered espescially attractive, while asymmetry is considered unattractive.
Antennae and moonfeaters (those moon shaped structures on the head and/or sides) are usually purple, with blue being he second most common color and bright red rare.
The moonfeathers are strictly a sexual display, and the size, brightness, hue and placement being factors. (entire books could be written on the sexual displays of Nostovians, and no matter waht oyur theory is, you're sure to find one Nostovian that disproves i. Bigger moonfeathers are usually considered attactive, except when its not. Assymmetrical arrangements are considered atractive, except whe its not... you get the idea)
