Since he's a polymorph, he has multiple forms - this one is one of the main ones. It's a sentient machine that can float in deep space and live for millenia. Yes, its design is..let's say, stolen from the MassEffect game series, just because it looks cool and formidable.
Still, his machine form is being redesigned at the moment to look unique and authentic ;)
