“Come and take a seat, my fine lads and lasses!. And listen to this old man’s tales!”
“You know me for my tales of blood soaked Monsters and people alike, of individuals with tragic pasts, and less than desired upbringings, and of creatures born from a malicious nature…”
“But today, i’ve come to tell you about a young aspiring hero, who seeks to protect those he loves, and slay the evils of the world that may dare harm said loved ones…”
“Today, i’ll be telling you about the brave boy called Sam, The Land’s Local and Valiant Hero…”
—
Sam’s tale is as generic as it can get. Born into the world as a farmer, in a remote village off in the countryside, he worked as hard as he could to help with the crops and animals on the farm, once he was old enough to do so.
He was kind hearted and brave, helping people whenever he could, and even jumping into danger to save someone in perel, in exchange for his own well being. People called him a fool for doing such dangerous acts of heroism, while those he saved praised him with their gratitudes.
One day however, his village was attacked by a horde of bandits, who easley overran the town’s defense, and sent the whole place into pandamonium.
Sam and his father helped those they could to get out of there, steering the populace that came their way towards the path to safety.
But, amidst all the chaos and bloodshed, Sam saw a mother and her daughter come their way, but the mother fell to the ground, as her daughter called out to her to get up and tried to help their downed parent, all the while a couple of savage bandits came charging towards them, weapons raised and ready to draw blood.
Upon seeing this soon to be death, Sam dashed towards the mother and child’s aid, with a reliable sword in one hand, and a door handle attached to a bit of wood as a makeshift shield.
He kept the vile bandits at bay, slicing and blocking all who dared come close, even managing to cut down a few of these vile scum. But Sam was not a one man army, so It wasn’t long before his body was riddled with cuts and bruises, his stamina running low, and the bandits' onslaught never seeming to have an end.
But Sam never yielded, his body may have screamed out to him in pain, but his righteous soul compelled him to stand his ground, no matter the pain!.
And as he was about to be cut down, luck just so happened to be on his side, as the cavalry had arrived!.
The bandits were driven off by the newly arrived reinforcements, who gave a mighty cheer of victory, as they watched the cowardly dogs run away with their tails between their legs. Sam was relieved that help had finally arrived, and slumped to his knees in exhaustion.
The captain of the guard reinforcements strode up to him, and looked down on his tired form with respect in his eyes, impressed by the young stallion’s courage. They offered the boy to join the guard, and learn a few moves and tricks that would help him, help others, who would be in great peril out there in the big wide world.
Sam was silent for a moment, unsure if he could bear to leave his family to do the farm work without him around… But if it meant that he could better protect those he held dear, and those that were innocent, then he would steel his heart, and grasp this opportunity to become a ‘Hero’.
He accepted the offer, and on the next day, with heavy hearts and caring hugs, Sam waved goodbye to his friends and family, and left with the captain and his soldiers.
Over the years, Sam was thrown through the ringer by both his fellow guards, and his instructors, all seeming to have it out for him for being the ‘new guy’. But Sam never buckled under their harsh training, and less then proper treatment of him.
Not all of them were after him of course, there were a good handful he became pals with, and who would jump in to help him out whenever it was needed.
When the day came where he had finally learn all that he could from the guard force, Sam thanked the friends he made in his time there, and the officers who whipped him into a better fighter, before packing his things, and journeyed out into the world to help those that he could.
Now, Sam is but a rookie when it comes to the ‘Hero’ business, and the only defining feature that he posses, is a heart of gold. So don’t expect any colossal grand feats of slaying dragons or that such.
Buuut… In terms of ‘normal’ feats, he’s not too shabby.
Firstly, he's pretty damn good with a spear, or halberd, coupled with using small to medium sized shields, really diving into a defensive and offensive sort of roll. He’s not a master at it, but he's definitely better than your regular joe with basic spear and defensive training.
Managed to take on ten bruly bandits at once, though not fully unscathed, but beat them on his own, he did.
Teamed up with a band of adventures to fend off a giant pack of wolves, who threatened to slaughter the populace of a small town.
And one of his most infamous and most unbelievable feats of all, he had a VERY brief encounter… With the Bloody Juggernaut…
Yeah, you heard me right, our brave and courageous Stallion stood face to face with the butcher of beasts and armies alike, and he didn’t meet his end then and there!.
Tho, from what i can gather, the Juggernaut didn’t kill him, because Sam wasn’t worth his time, nor his energy, and he just walked his big armored ass out of there. Even when Sam swung his weapon at the Jugg, to no effect, they just kept on walking away like nothing was happening. Giving the young boy the advice to grow stronger, and adding that, when the day comes where they meet again, that Sam might be worth his attention, and of decorating his hammer with his foolhardy blood…
—
“And that’s what i’ve got about the Valiant Sam…”
“A good young lad, though a bit reckless for throwing himself into harm's way, just to save every single person he comes across… *Sigh* But I guess that’s just part of being a ‘Hero’, ey?”
“But anywho, wanna hear another tale?. Or do you fancy yourselves some more ale?...”
